All point towards my alternator being goosed (although not sure why that would kill me rev gauge?)

Could it be my big fuse? or is it likely to be my alternator which is hopefully covered by my AA break down repair thingy

Definitely check the Big Fuse first. It's not difficult to do.and the effects are often distinctly odd...

I'd check the big fuse first as mentioned.

Well I had a look at the big fuse and it was a bloody mess!! after fitting a new one all is now good.

Crazy to think that it can cause so many problems!

Its a very common fault, worth changing once a year or so during the annual service

When my alternator went it caused the rev counter to under read along the speedo but at different rates. I was doing 80mph according to sat nav, speedo read about 60 and the rev counter 1500rpm.

If you are doing the big fuse, just don't do what I did last night. Accidentally knock the hazards on, then wonder why you can't turn the 'alarm' off when you reconnect the fuse! One call to Carl Baker today and mucho embarrassment!
