Has anybody experienced a problem with there car pinking after having work done i.e clutch? Mine failed 4 months ago(clutch).I had it replaced at christopher neils. When i picked it up,the car made some really clattery sounds.I thought my engine was on its way.Turned out to be a bad case of pinking. The cars been back there since to try to find the problem, but no joy.The car was running fine until the clutch went.
coincidence?
coincidence?
can only think of one thing that may have happened, but I've never seen or heard of it before. If they replaed the clutch with teh upgrade then the flywheel is changed, the crank sensor picks up off teeth on the back of the flywheel, so if your particular flywheel had been machined incorrectly it could affect it, ie making the timing advanced, other than that it's probably coincidence, but the cerbie runs such retarded timing that it's difficult to get it to pink if you're using decent fuel.
I`ve always run it on super or optimax.makes a little difference compared to 95 unleaded.is there anything i could try that does`nt involve taking it 40 miles to the nearest dealer?(had 101 problems there)
It seems to be a common occurrence(pinking).should i worry?
Its just had a service and the throttle pots checked, could it be something simple like the plug leads?
If it was something simple like the leads would it show up on a diagnostic check?

Pinking would not be caused by a problem with the HT leads. I can't remember if it's the spark plug sparking slightly too soon, or slightly too late that causes it. The most commen causes are incorrectly set ignition timing, or using the wrong grade fuel (a car that is designed to run on Super unleaded (97RON), will probably pink if you fill it up with normal super (95RON)).

Im sure i read a post saying that somebody solved a similar problem by changing the h.t leads?
Took it for a blast earlier.i cant press my foot 3 inch on the gas in a high gear without it pinking.its had the ignition timing checked, and the plugs changed.anybody had anything similar?
finally picked her up today(for about 30 seconds).
They replaced the crank sensor and the starter chip(again). They told me they had done 30 miles in it since fixing it ,and it was running spot on.Wow i thought. After adding another fortune to the old credit card,i jumped in the beast and drove about 100 yrds with it still pinking its head off.seems a wonder that after 30 miles with it running ok,that i come along and make it pink again!
A phone call a couple of days before unearthed the fact that they had`nt drove the car before they stared slapping new bits on it!
I dont mind paying the over inflated prices as long as they show a little more interest in the car and not my wallet!

I asked them if that could be the problem(fly wheel). They said its highly unlikely because all fly wheels have the same timing mark.
Thats the only thing it can be imho.one of the mechanics said the the only other thing to try was to program the starter chip to retard the timing slightly.
whatevers wrong with it is a direct result of them fitting that clutch, thats for sure!

and dont pay them for not fixing it !
I know it sounds dumb.I wasnt going to hand any money over until i drove it.The dealer said fine but there was no point because he personally had drove the car that morning,he commented on the crank sensor"doing the trick".he said it ran spot on.Why would i not believe him?why would he lie?

He did. I would demand my money back! Which of course they will refuse to do. I would at least expect them to fix the mother for free now.
unfortunately we still dont know whats wrong.Even colin mcrae said it was pinking bad!
cheers gazzeb, but until we find the reason, then we dont know what to fix.
(p;I didnt call you a liar,i asked the question.Everything i`ve said on this forum is a fair reflection of the service i`ve recieved so far.)
