I have a flat battery and need to use the emergency door release. I have never used the emergency door release before and when I came to use it it seems to be seized.

Anybody experienced a sized cable and have you any suggestions how I get in!?

Thanks in anticipation.

I can't help, but it's a good point. I think I shall check mine, just in case. I don't want any annoying surprises like that!!

A good spray of wd40 down the cable would be worth a go. If you pull back the trim just behind the door aperature you'll see where the cable acts on the lock mechanism- apply more wd40 here and try working the cable inside the outer. You should be ablevto get a good grip on the cable here with some pliers.

Tried that and even had a rope on it to gain some purchase. Unfortunately I can't get in to work on t'other end of the cable.

Thanks anyway

Fair point - but I think everyone using this forum will know where it is and you still have to get into the car to use it; in the same way you might a door handle. Nevertheless, I will amend the topic to protect us from prying eyes if you would prefer.

Sorry

This always said by people who post the various ways to get in or in this case out. It might be obvious once you know but we continually get people asking how to 'get in' so it's not that obvious.

This is an open forum and anyone with less than honourable intentions could use the info to break into our cars and steal from the boot for example.

No worries, just that i wouldn't want anyone not owning knowing the method, even from what you said wink

I think we are straying from the point and my post may have been misread. I haven’t asked how to get into a locked car and nothing I have posted tells you how to get into a locked car - which I don't think you can on my type of car.

My question is simply this: does anybody know what to do if your battery is flat and the internal emergency release doesn’t work?

I had the same problem with my emergency handle, not the ones in the cabin, the other one.
I drilled out the rivets holding it in place, then once the mounting is loose you can then open the door by give the full lot a wee pull.
Once in the car I then removed the full cable and left it in a linbin of wd40 for a week and now its all good. That was 4 years ago and its still good today.

Rob & Tim thanks for the information you’ve been very helpful.

At the risk of taking the p$%s with the free advice – can I assume that firing A1 on J45 and B3/B2 on J47 will have the same effect? Forgive me if this is and obvious question but I’m skilled only with a hammer.

Gixer- I was just about to email you about this very point. Forget what i said and go with Tim's wire. I've just had another look at the workshop manual and I gave you the wrong info. I looked at the list of wiring connections and the description given seemed to suggest that it had to be the white-purple wires, but looking at it again I got it wrong. Sincere apologies, just glad there's no harm done.

A1 on J45? That is the reed switch at the bottom of the drivers door. It won't have any effect if you start sending 12v down except maybe shorting something. You just need to send the voltage down B2 and B3 on J47.

Here is the full info from my experience:

It's the pin switch which I assumed must operate the 'catch' rather than the lock, or are they one and the same? Either way I don't think it would come to any harm.

Thanks again and I'll let you know how I get on.

i had to try out my emergency release handles for the first time this week, trapped inside the car. fortunately they all worked. unplugged the door control box the next day, plugged it back in and all working ok until it happened again last night. that just reset itself though whilst i was in the shop????
