you might want to try the breakers, as there's a few cerbera breaking now. i've always found some good sets. stay clear of the cross drilled rears though.

TVR Power had them available a few weeks ago.

How many weeks is "a few weeks ago"?

I rang everyone I could think of approx 6 weeks ago for Cerbera rear discs and everyone just took a sharp intake of breath through their teeth! They weren't to be had anywhere including 'Power'.

Cheers, Dave.

Sorry, I should have said they had them advertised as available on their site.

I didn't ask about them when I was on the phone.

I know they had none last year when I was looking for some.

Try Steve Heath ( shpub on here) and he may be able to help you.

I paid £190 a side to the TVR Centre this summer who had the only pair I found. Racing Green curiously only had one disc at that time. The spec is 306mm diameter by 24mm thick iirc for the rears on a 4.5, I don't recall the offset. They are cerbie specific and made in batches by AP and there hasn't been a batch made for a long time (TVR tried to avoid this with dwindling Cerb numbers made according to the ex factory guys I spoke to on my ring around). Fronts are 322 x 29.2mm again I don't recall the offset, because I kept the old bells and used AP standard 330mm x 28mm rotors and bolt kits when I did the front (supplied by BG Dev). 330 x 30 rotors might be a possible too.

The handbrake shoes are Jag XJS and spare style bayonet pins to attach the shoes onto the hub are definitely easiest obtained from Racing Green because of their Jag connections. I found a 5mm ball end allen socket the easiest way to release the hand brake shoe bayonet type locating pins. You can't attack things straight on because the hub obstructs you which is where the ball end allen socket comes in. I spoke to BG Dev and two piece items made by them with a cast iron bell for the handbrake were more like £300 a side! Clevor Trevor were looking into things when I spoke to them but had nothing final at that time. They were very helpful though and if a few owners are in the same predicament it might spur CT on to get an offering out there. I would definitely recommend you call CT.

Good luck,
Steve.

I did a little bit of work recently for raceproved on terry grant's new stunt car ( a T350 built by raceproved to an interesting spec) and it was wearing some new solid rear discs that raceproved had commissioned specifically for the car. It could be that it would be easy for them to make a batch of cerbera discs especially as they are now also getting involved with making bespoke castings for various other tvr components these days.

Disaster, Its christmas eve and I have cracked the front disk on my 4.2, I have just removed it and it measures 290mm OD.

Any ideas to get me back on the road or am I in for a long wait?

They´re 291mm, the same as the very early Tuscans (like mine) had. I couldn´t find the non-drilled ones when I needed some a few months back so ended up changing to 322mm Tuscan S ones and spacing the calipers as it was cheaper in the long run. You may be able to do the same depending which calipers TVR decided to bolt on your car that day. smile

I MIGHT have some 4.2 discs lurking down the workshop, i will have to wait till they are open to see if they have been scrapped or not. If not you can have them.

This may be of no use whatsoever but it's probably worth a phone call from someone at least.

A mate of mine, knowing all about the issues with availability of discs, came across this name and contact details in something called the Classic Directory '09 and they advertise as being manufacturers of brake discs.

Thanks all, No cerb over Christmas, its worse than no drink.

Basil Brush, Did you make the spacers up yourself or were they bought to accommodate the larger disks? Is the difference in the actual disk face or is the “top hat” bit where the studs go through larger in diameter as well? Is it possible to buy 30?mm Or 322mm disks and turn them down to 291mm in the lathe. I checked the gap between the disk and the calliper and its about 6-7mm with the 291mm disks.

Ireland, I have tried to locate the website but it re-directs you to a hosting site.

Brummmie, you may be my saviour but I will make a few phone calls in the morning but I don’t know who will be open with it being Christmas.

Pictures of the current setup in a view too shimming for larger disks.

I made the spacers myself from 16mm alloy plate and sorced some longer bolts, which was a job in itself as they are metric fine thread. The depth of the brake surface is the same so, even if you could turn them down, it´s not that simple.

You need to work out what size disc the inner radius of the caliper will allow, as there were 2 versions of the earlier calipers used. If you´ve got a 6mm or so gap at each end of the caliper with a 291 disc then they may well be the smaller version which will take up to 304mm discs. This was the size used from Sep ´00 for all non S/RR T cars. I cut a radius out of cardboard to check mine before shelling out for the discs.

If you can get 4.5 bells you may find that you can get a standard AP rotor which will give you a good approximation to standard 4.2 sizes. The bolt pattern is 12 bolts on a 7" radius from memory. I found BG Developments very helpful on working out possibilities from the standard AP parts line. I think they also have the machines necessary to turn down a set of discs for you if needed too.

Im sure the 4.5 upright itself is different to the 4.2 one aswell. I tried to fit 4.5 brakes to a 4.2 upright once and they definatly wouldnt fit. The spacer on the upright is different and the bolt holes have a different offset.

Although i would liked to be proved wrong!
