Hi all

I have been considering moving to own a TVR for sometime. I have now just seen this for sale -

http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/822850.htm

does anybody here know this car, or suggest why it is so cheap?

Cheers

64k on the clock would be a major reason. Otherwise, looks nice.

Yep, tough market and the mileage could be all it is (mileage is not a problem as such but regardless they do hit values). Ultimately if sellers need the elusive quick sale then price em low and take the hit - if not they price them higher and sit. That's not to say it's not riddled with problems, chassis could be MIA, engine burning more oil than Red Adair could shake a stick at - low priced Cerbs are sometimes the bargain of the century for what you get, but they warrant double the inspection time.

cheers guys

I was thinking that it must be the mileage holding it back price wise.

does anyone know this car?

I don't but someone may - failing that it's worth asking the seller which garage has looked after it and then maybe a quick word with them to see if they remember/know the car and can give it a general thumbs up - after that full inspection (really needs to go up on ramps to have a good chassis poke around) with someone who knows what they are looking for ideally.

is it cheap?
Sold my 99 4.5 a yr and a half ago for only a few grand more and it had a v recent Apm rebuild. Now the Market is depressed so I would not argue that is cheap.

early 4.5, any sign of rebuilds etc? looks as if half hide too. i bet there's some good money spent on this car. i would check receipts for work done, and major jobs along the way.

fair enough, I guess that as I am coming fresh to the marque I expect TVR's to be of a higher price than this one is.

I think it is cheap so like TC said - make sure you have a good inspection. I had mine inspected at TVR power, probably the best £200 I have spent on the car. All it turned up was a faulty brake light wire and (touch wood) the car has been far more reliable that I had hoped.

Perhaps people have just stopped selling 4.5s but if you take a look on here you usually have to spend a few more grand and you don't currently have much choice. Autotrader isn't much better - only one 4.5 for less than 20k.

Get it inspected and if all is well go for it.

This was my pride and joy only sold due to financial reasons has only done 2500 miles since I sold it 2 years ago. The car was in great condition I used it as my daily drive and it never let me down. The photo's in the advert are mine from a few years ago but should not have changed in so few miles. mail me if you want any info

Thats cause i did all the hard bits tongue out

Back on topic, i had seen this car too - it looks like its been looked after and i would certainly check it out. Its not that cheap relative to the market at the moment - there was a well known PH 4.5 98 that went recently for same price - its still on the classifieds further up the list to this one...

It is cheap in the scheme of things, IMHO it still stands that there is nothing on the road to touch Cerbs for the all round package for the money.

edited to say it was a 99 that sold not a 98...

If you don't buy it, then I suspect it might be another expat across the water very soon!

I like to think I carried on where you left off...

So, with the cheaper prices we are now seeing will a TVR be heading your way soon?

8k is too cheap. You can usually only get a CatD for 8k.

We should not be driving the prices down on these great cars they are worth a lot more than some are selling for. High mileage means the car works and any problems have been sorted. I sold this car for £15500 only 2 years ago it was in great condition and never let me down, the previous owner did 1200 miles a month hence the mileage. Andy at APM has looked after it for the 5 years before I sold it, can it really now only be worth £8000

This is somthing i have allways thought.

I think a this forum can have a big effect on resale values if everyone makes the effort and thinks about what is said.

By being positive the values could be pushed up..........

i am the last one to want to push prices down ..i sold mine a year and half a go for 14k after spending 16k of mods and upgrades..

it was a 99t reg... i think the guy who was the previous owner sheds new light on the vehicle and i retract my 8k comment...apologies to the owner... i think a cerb with history and well looked after is worth his asking price..
