I'm still stuck in the world of carbs out here in the backwaters of Herefordshire - can anyone assist me by telling me how I can remove the fuel rail on my 4.5?

I've got the induction system off but can't really see how to "unplug" the injectors from the fuel system to enable access to leads and coil packs and obviously don't want to force anything!

Any help greatly appreciated!

In my experience on the 4.5 you need to slacken one inlet manifold/throttle body so you can just rock it a bit, this will allow enough movement/angle to let the injectors and rail be levered out of the manifolds. Because of the angle it seems impossible to remove/refit rail unless one manifold is loose. Only thing is the cap heads fixing the manifolds to head are v hard to get to....long 6mm allen key and lots patience required, no room for hex bits unfortunately. Unless i missed something too?

I've done it twice without moving the manifolds.

It's quite tight, but if you gently lever out one side, you can then just pull the whole rail off.

Refitting is the reverse of removal, just gently ease it back in.

Obviously you need to remove the retaining bar first....

Thanks both.

Just to clarify - the injectors will just pull out of the rail - no clips or anything?

Also, at which point to they actually split?

Thanks!

I just pulled mine out wiggling a little as they came up.

To refit I used some electrical compound (you could use vaseline) to help them slide back in.

Thanks - I just popped it out - just got to order new o-rings now as the old ones are in a horrible state...

Replacing the rail involed the art of wiggling. Be very careful you dont trap an O-rinf or two. I did on multiple occasions.
