If buying from an independent TVR dealer (with WH warranty), do you think it's worth getting an AA or RAC car inspection done? I've had AA ones done before and they were very thorough.

If you're willing to overlook the noisy exhaust, noisy cams, poor handbrake comments etc... Then it might be worth it, personally I wouldn't bother. If your after an inspection, get a TVR specialist to do it, somebody on here should be able to give you a name or two...

Carl, defo worth getting it done. The RAC have specialist TVR guys and cover much more than the AA. Obvioulsy if you can get Joolz to have a look at it then your sorted, think he's quite busy though from previous threads. RAC give you 3 months comeback/warranty as well. Oh and you dont have to pay full price, got mine for 250 quid after haggling with them. Get the dealer to stump up the cash or at least halfers on the inspection, if he's not willing to do this dont touch the car!!! Good luck

I found the AA sub-contracted my inspection to a third party. The engineer said there was an oil leak but was unable to say where it came from. He also said the brakes were not good but could not elaborate. He also said it drives but could not elaborate.

AA were useless. It isn't one of those wonderful roadside recovery/engineers you expect. What you actually get is a rubbish description of things which you already knew, described by a man who knows very little about cars. Avoid.

If you complain they send you to the third party who they employed and refuse to deal with the complaint.

AVOID.

RAC were good though.

Is the independent TVR dealer local to you? Are they going to be looking after your car if you buy it?
Are they a well known Indy?

What does the inspection give you if they miss points that are later expensive to fix?

Wow - welcome to the forum and well done on performing a near on 14 year thread revival! You don't work for the RAC do you?

You say the RAC were good but don't elaborate!

I would say the advice in the above thread still holds true - these are special cars which need a specialist eye. Either buy from a known TVR dealer or get an inspection done by a TVR specialist (or both!)

edit - to fix typo
