Hi all,
My (4.2) car seems to be running fine at present, however every now and then i get a "Bleep" and the MIL light comes on for the same length of time as the bleep, 1 or 2 seconds typically.
If and when this happens, it is always under acceleration, perhaps more so when cold and occasionally when warm. I have checked the big fuse and all seems to be in order including the terminals.
I thought perhaps something might be getting streched if the engine moves during acceleration. Any ideas where to start?

Thanks in advance

The MIL light comes on when one of any of the many ecu sensors erturns a value outside of its preset allowable range. An intermittent flash could be water ingress somewhere, or even a loose connection. The thing is it really could be any of the sensors so you need to hook your car up to a laptop with the diag. software to look at the fault logs. Unless you've got any more information as to what the root of the fault is, any other suggestions would be little more than guess work.

Thanks for that, is the connection to be found in the passenger footwell?

Yup. Pull back the carpeted panel in the passenger footwell to reveal the ecu (silver box with MBE sticker). Use a small alan key to undo the bolts on the front and remove the cover. In the middle of the circuit board you'll see the serial connector for attaching your laptop cable. Easy!

This can also happen if accelerating hard up to the top of the rev range - indicating you need to change gear!!!driving

You don't suffer from a heavy right foot do you?

I certainly do, no point in having a Cerb if you don't.
However the bleep comes much earlier than that.
It seems strange that it is always under acceleration, taking Brog's comments above i would have thought perhaps that it would be just after starting I should have had the warning. Some times it is during a journey, again under heavy acceleration, usualy in the first half of the rev range.

Have you got the throttle pressed to the floor when the bleep happens?
It could be one of the throttle pots giving too high a reading - wide open throttle plus some spiking in the signal could push it too high.
