I own a ice green Cerb. It has satin black "18 Rims and sits oh so right. I'm a lucky boy. Now when I look at it I keep thinking 'That roof should be shiny black, darker glass and do the wheels gloss to match' Can't get rid of the image. I think it would be a tastful colour mod and show the width of the arse end off by seperating the two parts of the car. has any body ever done this to a cerb. please give me your oppinions. Be honest but kind. Let's not be scared to try somthing new. been quoted £150 for a top paint job. and after all 'It's only paint. Think i'm gonna, and if I do I shall post it on here for your critical veiws.

Think the photoshop lads need to do you some visuals!

I can't see such a contrast (black) working to be honest.
Darker shade of base colour might work.
I can see a gradual tinting getting darker over the whole car as it moves higher being a "TVR" thing though!

But it's your car!!

To be honest with you I don't think you should do it. The Cerb is a low car and if you black the roof section then the effect to the eye would be to make it look even lower. Like a green skateboard (I'm sorry I am being cruel). Many years ago, I had a 2.0 Crapi (ha ha) in the same colour and also wih satin black wheels. I just tinted the windows and that looked cool- well it did to me.

It's your car mate, do what makes you happy. No-one has ever called me a style guru anyway.

No don't do it. A shiny black roof will reflect your double chin when you lean on the car chatting to young ladies.

Thanks for your opinions on this one, I knew it would get plenty of negitive feedback and that's fine, but MX5's are a half pint version of a cerb and when I see them in silver with black lids I think it suits them. I've even thought of doing just the center panel black and leaving the sides siler to retain the visual hieght, a bit like on the Honda super cars. I'm a 'car' fan and that includes many different styles, some of the jap street racers go for deep black tops and look pretty striking. still interested in your veiws and if any techno wiz's feel like spending a week on photo-shop I would love to see it done. and my cerb. is practically silver. Cheers! Baz. Chris, Need to pop over Meriden one Sunday see some Trevors, Yea?

I think it would look ste!(IMO)-WTF are you talking about when you say a MX5 is a pint size version of a Cerb??? The Cerb is a hand-built British sportscar,if you wanna add bling to a japanese "sportscar"why dont you buy one and leave the Cerb as it should be(IMO)

Agree with you 100% Esso - i think people like you and me are becoming a minority in the Cerb ownership community.

Steady on guys. I love my Cerb the same as others love theirs but I also respect other cars and the people who are passionate about them. Whether it's a Morris Marina, Evo X or Ford Escort the people who love their cars are no less or more than any TVR owner. I feel bad when I hear anyone suggest that if it's not TVR then it's nothing. That's my opinion.........so there!

I once bought a ford prefect from a scrap yard, fitted a 3.1 v6 power steering, heated cream leather interior and made small changes to the tin-work. at the sidevale owners club meet, people were happy to chat until I dropped the bombshell that I had fitted a v6. Then I was no longer good enough to talk to. Two years later my car was claimed by custom car to be 'the best Prefect in Briton' that's their claim not mine. The club members said in one conversation that they would prefer it if the car was still in the scrapyard rather than being bdised. (sad view I think). You guys that are getting wound up by this...have you done any upgrades to your cerbs. Maybe headlamps or wheel changes that perhaps the 'God of Trevor' my frown on from above. My reference to MX5 was only a small comparison on the overall shape, not comparing it's mass produced incredibly reliable engineering to that of our 'hand built British sports car' which by the way I love, even last week when it was behind me an a recovery truck. In short I asked for your honest opinions and that's what I got, but sometimes people can get Too precious. Evolution of any car doesn't stop at the end of the production line.

I guess theres 2 school of thoughts here Baz. The Cerbera is a very small volume - only just under 2000 ever built, and maybe less than 1000 left 'alive' in the whole world. I've always been into Customising cars, but they were run of the mill mass produced cars that existed in ther 10's of thousands. The Cerbera is a Classic car, beautiful lines and looks great as it is, and customising it is, IMO, a sacrilege smile. You wouldn't dream of customising something like a 1986 Ferrari GTO would you? So why do it to a Cerbera? Spend your money keeping the car looking, and more importantly going, as it was intended to be. Spend money on Suspension upgrades, better lighting, re-siting the coil packs and big-fuse, looking after the chassis etc etc, not making it look a like a boy racers idea of what a Japanese sports car should like like. It's a Fckin Cerbera and should stay looking like a Cerbera! biggrin

Anyway, Rant over biggrin It is your car, and just cos I disagree doesn't make me right, there will always be owners who want to change things, and it might actually end up looking OK, so on a helpful note, use a Water based Basecoat, and spray the top black to see what it looks like. Don't prepare the paintwork, just de-grease it, then spray it. If you dont like it, the WB Based coat can easily be wiped off. If it looks good, then wipe it off and go ahead and do the job properly.

Having looked at the photo and given it some thought...I dont think I will go ahead with it , I think it would cheapen the look of the car. my brother has a sunroof he took out of his Austin Maxi, I measured it up and with a bit of cutting and some filler it should look great! What say you? laugh
