Both of the threads on the nuts which the rear under bonnet cover screws into are stripped - they look like some sort of brass rivnut.

Can anyone give me a clue as to how best to remove these to replace them or am I just better off drilling and retapping for the next size up?

Large drill bit, nice and fast so it doesn't grip & spin the nut. fit new rivnut. if your leicester way I've got the rivnut insert tool.

Thanks Baz - so basically I want to drill the whole thing out?

I'm down in Herefordshire so a bit of a way from you. I don't mind investing in a rivnut tool though if they're not unreasonable. Is there any specific type I need - won't a normal rivet gun do it?

Quick look, Machine mart.£80.oo. but you my get one from a auto jumble mini market, well worth the investment though.

How about this one Baz:

Out of stock I see, but looks like a nice, failsafe system to me!

Not convinced, looks like it would be a bit fiddly and the bolt would probably lean over when you do it up, who knows? for that price it's gonna get you out of trouble. Even if you use some coppereze to help it slide.

How about just tapping them out to a slightly larger size and buying 2 larger size Allen Scres to fit.

Sounds like an easier solution - but I'm easily tempted by new tools!
