Hi
I have just been reading through a few posts and have seen there are a few posts about people taking their engines out and tidying up their chassis's. I thought I would share whith you some of the things I have been doing to the car over the last 3 months.
I had checked the chassis and noticed that the outriggers had rotted completely through in some places and the rails along the engine bay down past the manifolds were starting to corrode quite badly.
I have taken out the interior, engine, removed the body from the chassis. I had the chassis completely sand blasted and hot zinc sprayed to protect it from rust, and then completely resprayed the entire chassis in Cascade Purple along the centre section and Grigo Titanio along the outriggers and suspension arms to match the body of the car, which also has been completely resprayed.
In the meantime I also stripped down quite a bit of the engine fitted a lightweight flywheel and new clutch. All the fuel lines have been changed to goodrich braded hose and replaced the waterpipes with silicone hose.
Here's a few pics in the meantime and wish me luck for next week when the body should be going back on. I shall post more pics of the completed project.

what a chasis mate fair play. what made you decide you wanted it a mettalic bespoke colour other than the usual white/silver/black?
you must have some money or own a spray shop to have it professionaly painted like that. all those angles and joints must take ages to prep and paint to that standard. keep the pics rolling me likey

After having the chassis zinc sprayed I was always going to get it painted plain silver but then after talking to a friend who owns the paint shop I decided to go on ahead and spray the centre of the chassis purple. The reason for the colour choice was because I always liked the TVR purple and thought the centre section would look well in that colour.

Heres a pic of the suspension:

Who's going to see the centre section when the body's back on?Heres a pic of the suspension:

Ronan, since you are not the first one who gets surprised with rotten chassis parts after removing the engine I am wondering what year your car is? I recall Shpub needed to completely rebuild the chassis of his Cerb ('98). Would be interesting to know if the rust problems refer to the early models only? By the way, ultra smart looking your chassis job!

Mines the same year as Shpub but I think everyone should make a point of checking their outriggers. This is what mine looked like after sandblasting

I'm scared now, mines a '98 and those pics are not very nice to see. By the way, I looked at your profile pics and the car looked damn fine. did you do theripy when found the rot?
I was very shocked when I seen how bad it was. Before lifting the body off I knew there were some holes but after the sandblasting that really showed how weak the chassis was in some places. Rotten chassis - this should be the subject of a separate threat. What are the crucial spots? What can be done to prevent it? How can it be spottet without having the engine out? More than the at lenght discussed issue what engine will grant the survival of the Cerbera its the severe chassis corrusion problems that will be in the focus of the current and future Cerbera owners. A very costy issue as the tube welding requires a body off restauration.
