Mike Saunders asked me to post this up, he and his father Tony are winging their way back down the M1 now after a long day up here in the chilly North smile

Today I had the very great pleasure (and it was a pleasure) of mapping the best AJP8 i have ever seen.

Final figures:

477.8 hp at flywheel
415lb.ft at flywheel
391.4hp at road wheels

Andy at APM has built a beautiful engine, well done matey smile

Also praise to the exhaust company (Mike will post their name up later i'm sure) their system is a work of art!

And finally praise to Mike and Tony for a great day smile

Faaaaaahooook me..... well done Andy, the quiet man of the TVR indie world. Not that it makes much difference to me of course, you were already my shortlist of 1 when my time comes for a rebuild.

Blimey, that is fit!

What mods apart from the exhaust?

Assuming it's only fairly recently rebuiilt there's probably a bit more to come too as it loosens up.

Blimey great results, hats off to all concerned.
The torque figure suggests it is it a 4.7 though, if not then its even more impressive confused. Is it his race or road car joolz confused. If it is the race car is this exhaust suitable for a road car as the header packaging restrictions do seem to be one of the limiting factor on road engine bays without hacking the body, I'd love it if it was suitable for a road car, I'll be on the phone to Andy sharpish hehe.
I'll have to dig around of my plots from Charlies, to see a like for like as I can't remember my wheel figures, but they are around the 385 mark on Pauls.

Plots would be good joolz yes

It's a 4.7 Harry. Power peaks a bit early and looking down the inlets there's some tidying up down there that Mike can do , thin the spindles etc, plus it really needs a slightly shorter induction just to tip the pulse up to just over 7k (peak power is at 6750 at the moment) .. plus its a brand new engine, only fired it up today so it will gain a bit as it loosens up as said above. It has all the markings of a 490hp engine once everything is just right smile

I don't really know anything about the engine spec except for the cc .. apart from Andy has built something very very nice smile

Mike has graphs which he is going to scan and put up later I think.

Peaking at 6k75rpm really does show there is more potential in the lump yet, Paul always said he could get 470 out of my 4.5, but I'm past the hanging around with no car for while stage.
Who says you need 4 valve heads, got to love the AJP8 :thumbsup:cloud9

It really does beg the question : who's going to be first to break 500hp!? Those last 20hp always are the hardest to find though hehe

oh on the exhaust question : no it's two side exit exhausts, they do seem to work quite nicely though but don't know if they would fit a std car, the design is unlike anything being used on an AJP8 to date and Mike has quite a lot of fibreglass chopped away in the engine bay for room.

anyway it's been a long 12hours of work on a sunday so I'm off for a soak in the bath and a beer smile

The way mike was describing the exhaust system to me, it wouldn't fit in a standard car.

I hope this isn't going to be one of those heavily guarded secret cars.

Would be great to know how much is down to the exhaust freeing up and how much is due to Andy though.

Great results.

Would be good to hear how the engine differs (or maybe doesn't differ) from Harry's beast.

So the engine is a 4.7Ltr
The exhaust wont fit a standard car
And the engine bay has been chopped to allow it to fit.

Not really much good for the majority of Cerb owners then...

Great figures but unless it's being tracked are these figures relavant to normal day to day driving..

Not necessarily so as it depends on how much needs doing to the exhaust to make it fit (if anything at all), also you would have to see how much of a perfomance drop would occur if the exhaust were made to fit withough any chopping of the engine bay....may only be about 10hp and given that this engine is still yet to be fully ran in then there's more power/torque to come.

We need more of these Threads please...........

Jules.

It's the engine in Mike's Cerbera race car, and is therefore of great interest (i would hope) to anyone remotely interested in Mike, his car and his racing progress. It's a Cerbera on the track, now with the best engine I have ever seen (and it wasn't slow before) .. that's reason to celebrate thumbup

Indeed, at a time when the glorious AJP8 is coming in for more and more stick, it's great to see this engine make over 100hp/litre - makes me wonder what it would take to make a 470-500hp AJP8 in a road car, that would be something smile

the main difference is this is a 4.7 and harrys is 4.5, just to add though the heads have not had any work done to them at all they are as tvr supplied them so there is more to come hopefully

If the head is stock, does that mean 4.7 liners is all it took to get the engine to 470? His engine wasn't a red rose so wasn't balanced down below?

If so where is the end of the queue, and how much? smile

4.7 crank I would expect.

I think he was doing it all with wafer thin liners. Not sure the crank has been touched. Something to do with motorcycle liner technology, or I could have been dreaming that.

Hopefully sooner or later he'll be back to tell us whats involved and what the bill would be.
