Discussion
I'm sure this was advertised about 6 months ago - obviously oo much car for the current owner ? And I thikn 500bhp might be a bit optomistic.... 450 possibly I suppose, if it was basically a RR ?

Saw this car for sale around 18 months ago for sale at a non TVR dealer. Advert read pretty much the same as it does now but it was going for slightly over the normal 4.5 money back then.
One of the sales guys mentioned that they had to replace the throttle bodies or something?? as part of the cars prep. The part in question took a while to get hold of and had to be made up by the factory due to this cars apparent modifications.
See here for the thread last time this was for sale!

I hope this is all true though
If it is, can you imagine what it must drive like!!!!!!!!

If it is, can you imagine what it must drive like!!!!!!!! I still believe the GT cars never existed. I can understand the odd "friend of the factory" car being a bit special, but nothing like 500bhp (unless its tvr bhp, so that should be around 420bhp? *cough* redrose *cough*!!)
Last time it was up for sale people started talking about unique front suspension mounts etc etc - theres nothing unique about them, the first 4.5s had them fitted AFAIK (we had them taken off our cars when we upgraded our suspension). Perhaps people mistake these development cars for GT's?? Have TVR themselves ever said anything about these cars????

Racing Green or Castle had another one claiming to be a GT for sale a while back, sort of a greeny colour. Same sort of money too.
I am in no doubt that five 'special' GT's were made for homologation but what was actually 'special' about them remains to be seen I think.
Any of the independants or dealers on here with any information? Jools, have you seen or heard of such a thing before?

I think Ben's partially right in that the so called GT cars aren't anything special at all, quite a few 4.5s come with GT written on the ECUs for example.
Early 4.5s came with front upper damper mount extensions to run rear dampers on the front, but i've never seen a cerb with anything but std geometry.
500bhp is a bit optimistic I feel too, the race tuscans make 470 on a very good day and they have a much better exhaust system. I can't see any production 4.5 engine making more than 440bhp on the std exhaust no matter how much induction mods were done.
it's worth 29k tops I'd wager, if indeed it's still got all the right supposed GT stuff on there ...

Hi. That's not the info I got whilst at the dealers. thinking was that the GT was in fact going to be a separate model in it's own right, with talk initially of close ratio gearboxes and extra power coupled with revised suspension geometry, none of which saw the light of day of course except in these 5 supposed versions.
Eventually TVR set up a separate company to handle the later tuscan close ratio gearbox, but the GT power increase didn't materialise until the red rose versions of the car some 3 years later. As far as I am aware there were no suspension geometry changes apart from the aforementioned front upper damper mounts which were bolt-on units onto an otherwise std cerbera chassis. BCA's dad's car had these originally and it's an early 4.5, but apart from that I can't see anything different on that car, but you never know - Ben it might be an elusive 1-of-5 GT!!!! or at the least a factory development vehicle .. have you ever checked into it's history?
As an aside, I recently drove the chim that was Ben Samuelson's own car, part TVR development Chim too, had all sorts of weird stuff on there - round vents in the dash, later boot lid, std 4.6 range rover engine (the car was advertised as a 4.5 chim but a dyno run showed it only had 180bhp!!! doh). It also had large front discs and std solid rears.

Obviously didn't think he could handle the power then
I think somebody needs to do some tyre kicking and test driving on the aforementioned GT.

Im told that my 4.5 is number 9. The chap I bought it off placed an order for a Cerbera GT at the 96 motor show. Apparently this car promised close ratio box, lots of carbon and a few other fancy things.
He had a couple of pics of this beast from the show (dark green with alacantra trim) but sadly it was canned for some reason or another. His order was in for quite a while before TVR told him that the GT would not be going ahead and gave him the choice of either the new 4.5 or a full refund of the deposit.
I have been told that some of the very early 4.5s had a few trick parts possibly intended for the GT model but so far I have yet to find any on my car.
Anyone know how to verify the build number?

This again.
Seems to appear every year or so with the same old stories. Personally I don't believe a word of it. Anyway, even if it is a GT so what? All that counts is how fast/how much power.
You'd think someone would have put it on a dyno by now. I wouldn't buy a car that supposedly had more power than standard without some evidence to bsck the claims up.
Just my 2p.

Mat - when was 4.5 number 9 made then??? 97 I presume?? Ours must have been one of the first few.
Joolz - perhaps this is why TVR refuse to talk to us about the car?? AFAIK its a standard 4.5 - definately one of the first though. Our car doesnt quite run 500bhp either does it
We did have tweaked suspension geometry Joolz, just before you met us the rear wheels were pointing the same direction!!
The guys at TVR power said it was absolutely lethal, "its trying to kill me every time I floor it" - Dad still hasnt noticed any difference. (its been corrected)
Im sure dad wouldnt mind adding £20k to its price tag though - that said I dont think he would sell it!! Next on his list is a Bentley GT (why?) or another 4.5 (Red Rose). Thats about ten or twenty years away unfortunately, although I hope to get one asap
bah skint

Until recently I owned a 4.7 cerby (1 of 2 made) which was verified by the factory and Shane Fearn who built the engine at TVR. It didn't show any obvious benefit over a standard 4.5 and Shane indicated that they didn't take the 4.7 any further because of this. He did say that they built one or two 5.0 litre versions that showed slightly more power, but not a great deal. Apparently my 4.7 was an engine taken from PW's Tuscan Racer and reconditioned for my car as a favour to PW's friend who bought the car new. The other 4.7 was a press car.
