Guys, bit of a post to get some names/numbers etc of places that will carry out outrigger replacements. THought this might be useful for us future re-furbers.

Checking mine over for the ring this year and found a small hole that I'm going to need to get done after the trip.

Who have you guys used?
What sort of prices are we talking for say 2 corners to be replaced. i.e. one complete outrigger.

Also, body-offers..... ooo er.

Who did you use for your chassis stripping and subsequent painting?
I based on the south coast but interested in any area. I'm gonna be stripping myself so will supply a plain chassis etc.

Been pricing up an overhaul of the engine and chassis and so far, not including the chassis work, or paint, and doing ALL the work myself including the engine rebuild it's currently coming out at £6.5k! eek

i m in the same position as you and will be using STR8-6. The price they quoted me for replacing the outriggers (the whole sections) is simply amazing! pm me for more details if you want

Care to share a breakdown of those costs?? I want to know how special the engine is going to be... thumbupevil

We have the same coming, body-off rebuild and possibly considering an engine upgrade after this season. Dare I say it, also considering a Noble. eek

Worryingly the engine will not be racey at all. Below is a list of all the parts to be replaced. These have been sourced from the cheapest of suppliers (been through all the part supplying websites!) Heads may get a bit of tickling but again I'll do that so it's free.

The only things that are racey are the flywheel, suspension bushes and ACT/OJ Eng exhaust manifolds. May swap the rest of the system out for a Blue Flame job too rather than the std Sports exhaust.

Also included are about £500 worth of equipment to lift the body.

Add about £3-400 for crank, flywheel, piston rod balancing on top of the £6.5k.

Hi Ridds,

Don't know if this is any good but I used a company in Northern Ireland call Metalcraft. To do the complete job, not just the outrigger replacement, but the whole chassis and hot zinc coat it, cost £1800. At least this will give you an idea on cost for you to compare, also with that there is a 10 year guarantee with the zinc coating. Hope this helps

Cheers Ronan. Just the kind of answer I was looking for. Trying to compile as much info in one place as possible!

Unfortunately I think the cost of getting to Ireland might put them out of the picture for me.

How long did they take?

They had the whole job done in 3 weeks. One of the bosses is the RO for Northern Ireland, so he was as keen as I was about getting this job done. They didnt just do the chassis, they also done all the suspension arms and hubs.

Did you strip it all and just send then a truck full of metal to sort?

It's actually sounding quite good the more I think of it. smile

Yeah, I just put the chassis and all the bits on a trailor, took it up to them and left it off. They completely sandblasted all of the parts, replaced all the tubes that needed replacing, sandblasted it again and then hot zinc coated everything. Great Job thumbup

Ridds, for stripping and recoating the chassis it is probably worth giving that autoblast company I recommended @ £30 an hour. However I don't think they can do zinc coating.

I think I'm looking to do the following.

Have both outriggers replaced, might as well do the lot. One has got a small hole in and I'd rather replace both than have to remove the body again.

Then send it off to be galvanised.

Then find somewhere to do the painting.

Think I'll get Autoblast to do all teh suspension components.

Would they be able to carry out chassis powdercoating after galvanising or is that not possible?

I'm not sure about powdercoating after galvanising, I don't see why not. I had my suspension bits zinc primed. When the body comes off (hopefully this coming winter) I will look to get it galvanised.
