Any ideas on any methods to use for this? We've drilled/cut out the old ones, but the new poly bushes just wont go back in?! frown Nightmare... we need this sorted asap, so any advice/ideas are much appreciated.

thanks in advance,

Just done this on a Griff..... overall it's an arse of a job but they go in very easily with a Ford Void Bush puller.

TBH any suitable sized disc and threaded bar will get them in.

We've used a threaded bar, nearly have one in.. was just a little shocked at how much pinch it was taking on one side, but it soon slipped in evenly.

Its nearly there now, but the last cm or so is going to prove tricky as we'll soon have to stop using the threaded bar?

hmm. scratchchin

Can you use the outside of one of the old bushes? It doesn't need much of a nip to get the last bit in.

I just wind the ones on the two plates in in the vice. and put the rear bush in with a pair of large pipes grips. It should only take 30 seconds per bush really. fnaar fnaar smile

Loads of copper grease on the bush and the mount did the trick for me.

Ben,

I've bought a 'void bush remover' haven't used it yet, but you should be able to get one from a good motor factors, it wasn't expensive, sub £20 from memory.

Details

eBay auction

As for Spitfire4V8 - I hope your chassis is in a better state than the one on my Spitfire 1500! wink

I think the 18th was mentioned?! eek That said, the Cerb now has four wheels on, four shocks and the expensive "all the best" diff is coming tomorrow. thumbup

The std bolt in that wouldn't pass through the original bushes on my Griff. You might need to get yourself a metre of high tensile M10 threaded bar and some '10 grade' M10 nuts. I broke quite a few lengths getting mine out due to the amount of torque needed!

Just confirmed - March 18th, morning session - 8am start?! eek We'd best get going with it... not even got the diff here yet?!

edit: HRG - we used the threaded bar method. thumbup

I've been writing up a comprehensive 'how to' guide on replacing the diff bush. I haven't quite finished it yet but it you want a preview send me a email and I will mail it back. The bush removal section is complete.
The easiest method is with a long pole through the wheel arch and some GBH. Its how the dealers do it (the ones i spoke to) and I found it far easier than using the tool.

Ok I just read the first msg again and see you have it out already. My guide includes refitting the polly bush too.

I trust you have removed the centre metal section?

Cheers Mark. thumbup

Will email our thoughts after the weekend. We've come to the conclusion that we are being soft - and reckon with the threaded bar and less sympathy we'll have the lot sorted soon. smile
