I have just put my 97 4.2 Cerb in for a major service which includes checking of tappet clearance. The garage advised that I need to replace the camshaft as mine is fractured. I dont know of anyone else who has suffered from this problem as the camshaft on the APJ V8 is made of solid billet EN40B Steel.Has anyne else suffered the same.

It's hard to imagine that it's cracked. If anything I would have thought it would be broken all the way through or not at all. Have you had a close look at it? Can you get it X ray'd if not sure about it's condition?

Unfortunatley I have not seen the damaged shaft as I am out of the uk until Jan and the work is being carried out by V8 Sport based in north berwick who I let carry out the service and replace a damaged clutch . The current bill is around 3 k without the replacement cam shaft. I have requested the garage keep the old shaft and I will have it checked out

Cams are about £270 each plus new followers at £15 each. Plus a few hrs labour to fit. so that will be another £600 please.
