Hi guys. As per my other thread... sold my weekend car - modified 1997 R33 Skyline GTR - leaving me at the end of the month. Looking to replace it with a Cerbera. I have kept my daily drive on - Diesel Ford Transit Connect van.

I had both cars insured with Adrian Flux on a joint policy allowing the mirroring of my NCB on both cars.

I am 25, 5+years NCB, no points on license, car kept on drive-way. The policy on my weekend car - GTR - was limited to 3000 miles per year. I rang Adrian Flux to see what the change to the policy premium would be when swapping the GTR policy over to a 1999 Cerbera 4.5.

I was paying £890 for the GTR a year fully comprehensive. (with Thatcham approved CAT1 alarm, immobilisor and tracker fitted). £350 excess. Windscreen cover excess £60. With Ensign via Flux.

The new quotation on the 1999 Cerbera 4.5 example I gave them is £1390 (as long as a Thatcham approved CAT1 alarm and immobilisor were fitted to it - standard specification car). £500 excess. Windscreen cover excess £75. With Norwich Union via Flux.

Value of the GTR was down at £13k. Cerbera down at £17k.

First question... does this policy premium quotation for the Cerbera sound reasonable? Does it seem high?

Who else would you recommend to insure the vehicle with? And could I insure the Cerbera as a classic car, as it will not be a daily driver, etc.

What are your thoughts on all of the above guys?

Thanks,
Kyle.

For a non-classic car policy, its probably a little high, but not beyond the bounds.

However, this was the sort of money I was paying (I'm 24 by the way) before i discovered classic car insurance.

I'm with Hagarty now and I pay £418, which includes free breakdown cover. They only insure you if you have a second car insured with someone else, which is obviously fine for you. They're just really nice to deal with too.

Hi... thanks for the advice. Does the TVR have to be standard specification or are they a little lenient? And what TVR / engine are you insuring for that amount?

Thanks,
Kyle.

Most i paid for mine was £800, that was when i bought the car at 24, altho i stay in sunny scotland and dare say that the prices vary dramaticaly over the country. I'd be looking for it alot cheaper than that personally

yes Same here.

Hagerty £400 (ish?) can't remember exactly - £22,000 agreed value.

Damn... glad I asked this question now. Will be giving Hagerty car insurance a call then! Flux can b*ll*cks! IMAO. Will let you know how I get on!

By the way... do Hagerty require a CAT 1 alarm and immob to be fitted to TVR's to get those policy prices? And do they require the vehicle to be totally standard spec? Ones I am looking at have the 18inch Spider wheels. Gaz Gold suspension. Maybe re-map and maybe intake / exhaust sytem.

Give Hagerty a call, they are very helpful and sensible about mods. You will need to garage it though for the best quotes. I am 33 and pay £240 for my 4.2 on their classic policy.

No go with Hagerty I am afraid.

They have brought in a new ammendment to their policies that states anyone wanting to insure a TVR... must be 30 or over. Being 25 that puts a spanner in the works.

Phil at Hagerty put me in touch with another company called "Need To Insure". Small firm like Hagerty, based in Mansfield direction. Just awaiting a quotation back from them.

Any other suggestions people?

Thanks,
Kyle.

Bit of good news... Need To Insure pulled through on their quotation.

On an £18k Cerbera 4.5. 3000 miles per year. Parked on drive-way. Standard security measures. Classic car policy. Me: - 25, no points, 5+years NCB (not required on this policy though). £601.75. Fully comprehensive with a £150 excess.

I think that is a pretty good figure.

If anyone wants them. Contact number for them is 01623 720081.

Will try Mannings as well for good measure, but think that will be hard to beat.

slightly off topic but not much, im with henderson and taylor and im soon to be 27. i insured my cerb at the age of 26 and took the policy out for the price of £420ish ful comp agreeed value garaged with standard alarm etc etc.

I referred someone to them not so long ago and they came back saying henderson and taylor have now changed their policy to tvr owners over 30 only.

when my renewal is due where do you think i stand? will i have to go with someone else who will insure under 30's or do you think they will carry my policy on as im already with them and have not claimed.

Don't worry. I spoke with Phil at Hagerty about this. And he said that existing owners under 30, as long as they got on board the ship before the new 30+ TVR policy came into play, which you did by the sounds of it, they will carry on doing what they are doing with you. You will not be affected.

If I was you though, do not leave them, as you would not be able to return to them with a TVR until you are 30. As you would then be deemed as a new customer.

Hope that helps.

A-Plan, age 35, 9 years no claims bonus garaged with 6k a year car insured for 11k.. £399 a year they were by far the cheapest quote I had.

I had two Chims when I was in my twenties and never paid more than around £900 a year for them.

I am myself just going down the insurance route.I recieved my new quotation this morning. £759 with £550 excess with Mannings. 39 years of age with no convictions and limited mileage of 3000mls per year.I am going to drop the car to a classic policy,as the benifits seem the same.On another note,i have always had prompt service with Adrian Flux. The Corvette costs me £440 a year with them, and the Ram £380.Both on a 3000ml limitation. The Lotus costs £240 on a classic policy, also with Flux

Currently 37, 98 Cerb 4.2, 8 yrs NCB, no accidents or convictions, 3000 miles yr...

Hagerty (also spoke to phil - top bloke) - £287 classic

Manning - £383 'modern'

Heritage - guy was honest and said they were not TVR competitive at the moment...seems strange them advertising in TVRCC Sprint...

Classicline - £297.50 classic

Adrian Flux - £275 Classic

Trying to look into all the policy details to compare like with like but generally very pleased with amounts. Anyone got any experience with these guys....thinking of how they acted when the worst happened...?

Its all well and good getting a cheap quote but don't want to have loads of hassle at a time when you least need it if you know what I mean...I would happily pay a bit more if i knew the company had a good reputation for good customer service and also being able to speak to a human being in this country! No bad mouthing just if anyone has particular praise thats all...

Another vote for Phil at Hagerty, a pleasure to deal with and knowledgable about
the real world of TVR. All mods noted, Gaz Golds, decat, chassis repairs, remap
new alloys. All listed on the policy and due to the fact original parts are now
often renewed or replaced with upgraded items there was no extra charge on the
premium.

It seems like Hagerty are giving some good quotes but you could also try A-One insurance Quote hotline 01202 850122. I don't know about the under thirty thing because I'm 38 but mine is on a driveway (back yard) and it's one of the LS modded Cerbs. It is also my only car so did not qualify as a second car classic but the price was very good. Some company guys maybe reading this but if you get a few quotes which are close in value you could use that to bargin one company against another for your custom.

Good luck with it anyway.
