Ive removed my heads to time it properly and to put new gaskets in as a matter of good practice to save any future issues.

are the head gaskets specific to the cerbera 4.2 ajp or will one from a rover v8 fit?

why are they so exspensive £95 each in one store. anyone know if they are cheaper elsewhere?

To the best of my knowledge they are AJP8 specific and the price is due to volume I expect.

You could go for copper - they're even more expensive. biggrin

Cant see how ajp and rover v8 are the same - they are completely different engines...

not sure if AJP4.2 and 4.5 heads are differnt though...not that that helps with the cost...never tried them but what about multipart...? They sponsored the TVRCC BNG08 event and told of their intention to manufacture parts...just a thought.

the 4.2 heads are slightly different to the 4.5 so make sure you tell them its a 4.2, try tvr car parts, I think I paid around £50 each from memory

yes the price is £55 for the 4,2's and 75 for the 4.5's

I thought the cerbera used rover blocks, i know the heads are unique, but thought due to the block shape they may be the same as rover v8 head gaskets. obviosly not my bad.

clive, apologies for not rining tonight, i need to get my head gaskets first, then put the heads back on and ready to accept the cams then you can run me through the procees. shayne

cheeky bugger. my user name has been cupra20v.t as im registered on a load of different forums under that name so thought i would use it herr save me forgetting passwords and usernames.

i have read up on the ajp and watched the tvr videos etc and i know the ajp was the first tvr made engine put into a road car etc and that the head was designed by them and then engine setup was similiar to f1 stuff and it was one of the engine with the most bhp output for NA at the time etc etc. i just had another dumb moment like normal lol

Only joking Shayne!! laugh

Had a search for Al Melling yet?
Apparently he claims to have designed the AJP, and still owns the rights to it!!
Once people see his photo, their whole view of the engine seems to change for some reason!eek
(only joking Al!)

Anyway good luck with it! Hope to meet up one day!

Ever met the guy?

We could do with a few more like him in the UK.

Some people love him some hate him, I personally have a lot of respect for the bloke, he wouldn't still be in business if his enginering was a bad as some people say!

The AJP8 is not quite the engine that it was supposed to be, it was initially designed as a dry sump unit, as fitted in the AJP Tuscan Racers, I believe there were a few other changes but I'm no AJP expert and have the memory of a goldfish so not the best person to comment. :-D

Whichever way you look at it the Cerb' is the car it is because of the AJP8 (or AJP6), and I personally wouldn't want it any other way so, Thanks Mr Melling.

Apologies Tim!

In my rather poor attempt at humour. I seem to have give the impression I do not respect Al M!
On the contrary! I have defended him and his design brilliance on a number of occasions.

I totally agree with you that we need more from AL and more like him to get us out of this recession in my opinion.
I myself started in Mechanical Engineering and would love to work with the man himself!

The reason I got a Cerb instead of any other car was the AJP engine!
