Round and Round

I know an 'odd sound' is a notoriously difficult thing to describe on a forum (which is why I didn't bother posting it), but since Xmas I've had an annoying problem on the Cerb that I've been methodically tracing since (weather permitting) and finally accidentally caught up with it over the weekend and resolved it.
The 'problem' was when accelerating at around 3-3.5k revs in 4th and 5th there was a clack clack sound very much like like when you strapped a load of cardboard into the spokes on your push bike rear wheel as a kid to make it sound like a motorbike. You know what I mean
No loss of power though and as the revs hit 4.5k the sound disappeared. As the tappets were adjusted weeks before it was unlikely to be them.
First thing was to hook up the laptop to see that the adaptives were waaay out (+37.5% and -5%) and a lambda was intermittently failing along with some spiking in the t-pot readings. Couple of new t-pots and lambdas later and a nice tune up did... nothing. Exactly the same.
After checking the fuel pump and filter I then looked at the fuel rail and injectors to see if anything was loose or not right to find that one of the retaining bolts was turning freely even when fully down. So, removed the fuel rail and a visual inspection of the injectors showed that 2 of them were cracked below the bottom o seal. 2 new injectors and a retap of the retaining bolt hold did.... nothing.
I was going onto coil packs next but GSF parts were out of stock on Friday so as I needed something to do I decided to strip the exhaust system from the manifolds back to find that the n/s rear exhaust can had shifted slightly and there was a gap where the centre pipe flange met the can, even though it all 'looked' fine and dandy and was tight. So after 3 hours of stripping and completely refitting the exhausts yesterday, I took it out for a road test and the noise was completely gone...... only the deep booming sound and the crackle and pops of an AJP on song to be heard. Oh joy
The biggest upside of all this 'attention' is that the car is running like a dream and fully deserves the title of 'Blackpool Rocket'.
Summer is going to be fun .....

Talking about strange noises, I heard a story about a guy with a Cerb who had a really annoying noise coming from the passenger side of the car. Couldn't get rid of it for months. Strangely it stopped when he got divorced...;)
Ah yes, plenty of guys are left with no house and no car after a divorce!
