Could any one help me out here please.
My car has not been used for a while and unknown to me the battery charger had been disconnected and of course the battery is now flat. i have charged her up over night and is now fully charged. my problem is that she will not start. the red light in the dash below the radio is on permanantly, i.e. not flashing as is the one in the back windscreen. the central locking is working perfectly, indicators flash once or twice depending on locking or unlocking. the engine turns over seing as i had altered the wiring 18 months ago when the starter motor was playing up thinking it may have been the imobiliser at the time. the thing is i am not getting the beep when pressing the black button either or just before. Any ideas where to start?
Thanks in advance guys
Andy

Can you hear the fuel pump priming ?

Have you knocked the metal key in the cubby hole ?

thanks for your prompt responce Russ, just checked the silver key, it is in the right position as the dash lights come on behind the heater controls when the black button is pressed. however, the fuel pump does not prime, any ideas?
thanks.

Not had the problem myself, but with respect to the fuel pump, I was advised that there's a kind of "trip switch" on the top, which needs to be pressed down. Sometimes, usually after a bumpy ride, this pops up.

It's in the boot, on the left hand side as you look at the car from behind, under the top lip of the bodywork... It's got a rubber covered top, which you can push to verify it's pushed down.

I'm sure someone with better technical knowledge could provide more accurate info.

Worth a pop

Sounds like an immobiliser issue to me. I'll send you a PM.

Failing that, then give Carl Baker a ring.

The LED's not clearing & fuel pump not priming suggest the alarm.

Wouldn't know how to fix it I'm afraid Andy.

Could try dropping the power off the alarm & re connecting (Take pos or neg off your battery)

Sound like a job/call for the magician that's known by the handle 'Carl Baker'

Can a flat battery affect the stability of the alarm? it hasn't in the past.

The switch mentioned above is the inertia switch which cuts out the fuel pump only when engaged. With the ecu not powering up (as there's no beep), I would think it's probably an immobilizer issue. That said, the ecu circuit on the immobilizer is usually the last circuit to fail as it carries the least current. Have you had a look to make sure the fuses are all ok? Maybe be worth checking there's no water ingress into the ecu connector, as there have been a few cases where water has tracked down the cable and into the connector.

Have had plenty of battery problems, and some strange associated alarm related issues too... so another thought might be to disconnect the battery and reconnect.

I know the gradual dissipation of charge can do strange things to the alarm system.

Also an easy one to try

If you've still got the black plastic immobiliser 'key', try slipping it where it goes in the dashboard. This may clear/reset things and get you up and running. Worked for me when I had a similar problem a few months ago.

Make sure the inside of your back window's not wet.

This cost me a bit in various wiring looms/boxes

Disconnect the Battery for at least 30 secs. Then try again, this can 'kick/reset' the imobilser back into normal mode.
