I searched for some head gaskets for the ajp and racing green came up with the cheapest at £55 each. the next price was £90ish from tvr power.

I ended up ordering my headgaskets from RG on Tuesday and all was well. I have just had a phone call from racing green apologising but they sold me the gaskets at the wrong price and telling me their supplier has increased the price so they will need to increase the price.

So i have now paid the £90 per gasket when they advertised them at £55 per gasket. I did say that they should honour the price they were advertised at but the guy just sais send them back then and ill refund you.

Surely they have to honour the price. its not my fault they havent updated the website or kept an eye on the suppliers prices.

Where do people think i stand on this? im not naming and shaming here as i think racing green a tidy outfit. i just want to know what people think is the right move here.

On the products I sell, not car bits....

If it were me & I'd already sent them, I'd honour the price, as for all I knew, you'd already fitted them.

If I hadn't already sent them, and spotted the mistake, I'd call you & say I've made a mistake. Do you want them at the new price or not ?

Basically, they're asking you if they can help them out a bit. I'm presuming you can't get them any cheaper and like most car companies at the moment, they could probably do without losing money.

I'd accept the new price, but we're all different smile

I don't think they can come after you for the difference once you've paid for and received the goods- as far as I am aware.

In the few dealings I've had with racing green I really couldn't have been more pleased with the professional service I was offered- way better than you normally get. In this instance however, they're asking you for a favour for which you are under no obligation to fulfil. Sure it doesn't help them if they loose money on a sale, but times are tough for everyone tight now, and you obviously bought the product because it was the price that they stated, an like you say, it's not your fault that their prices weren't up to date.

Yep, if they hadn't sent them fair enough, you would get stung to get the parts.

However, you have the parts and they want more money? Sorry sir, your mistake not mine.

Did you pay by credit card?

You paid their asking price for the product and they supplied it at that price. I guess they have already taken payment at the original price and we know you have the product so job done as far as I'm concerned!

I guess you would be within your rights to simply refuse to pay, though what would happen if you then required their services in the future who knows.
If you have a good relationship, which you consider worth preserving, them pay them. Anyone can make a mistake.

yeah i paid with credit card.

im very happy with the service from racing green and i dont want to be awkward. the well spoken chap that called me is nice enough and was so apologetic. i have told him he can charge me the £90 per gasket as i wouldn't want him to suffer with the way things are and loosing money on sales.

He did say he would give me the gaskets at cost price and not make a profit on them so i paid £80 per gasket which is fair enough but the £60 on top of my order i had to pay would have come in handy for bits like paint, stoneguard, odds and sods fo the car etc.

I just didnt have the balls to kick up a fuss over the phone as the guy was genuinely nice and apologetic. (WIMP) oh well.

I think you've done the right thing.

We all make mistakes, and the more parts suppliers we've got, the more competition we've got.

Which equals cheaper prices.

You'll go to heaven hehe

We all make mistakes...the issues has been resolved...well done to all.

However, was the part in stock...if so, surely it would have been paid for at the original price and marked up accordingly.

If not stock and ordered from the supplier and mistakenly sold at the wrong price then refer to first comment above...

Some price increase eh...

The OP should have called them the 'Hampshire Bodgers' in his profile.

That way we could have all jumped to their defence instead of saying "tough luck"

I think it's worked well for all involved.

You got them at less then most places are supplying them for and they covered their costs. Can't believe they cost 80 notes though! ouch!

Glad you're happy, but under contract law, I think you should have got them at the lower price. I'm not an expert so happy to be corrected, but, You accepted their offering price £50, then then accepted your offer and executed the contract by taking the money and sending you the goods. Contract completed. They can't come back and ask for more later. Mistakes do happen, and if they spotted before taking your money and sending the goods, they could recover the costs if you agreed.

all is resolved now, i have my head gaskets and i paid the cost price instead of retail price.

They didnt have the gaskets in stock and had to order them. the guy told me they get them from tvr power who i searched for a gasket with previously but they were £90ish each so thought i'd go with RG as they were the same genuine tvr gasket bte £40 cheaper.

obviously when racing green found out tvr power charged them more than i had paid them, alarm bells rang and they called me up to save loosing £60.

I think legally i am within my rights to demand the gaskets at the advertised price as its similar to supermarkets or any retail outlet labelling a product at the wrong price, they have to honour it at the advertised price asm they mislead the customer.

however im not an agumentative person so i accepted the fact and paid the difference. should call them up see if i can get any freebees like a mug/pen or some number paltes with the racing green logo on them as mine have water behind them but i dont want to get rid of my racing green logo'd plates unless i can get a replacement pair the same, we shall see.
