APM GT CUP Cerb Rolls Out Again on Friday
Discussion
For those interested, the GT Cup Cerb rolls out again for testing at Brands on Friday.
Changes for this season are:
Pirelli Tyres as part of the series sponsorship package, which we will be testing basically to destruction on Friday.
Straight through ACT specially made exhaust to allow the air to run straight out from the bombs and across the new diffuser. Sound is awesome!
New adjustable and strengthened wishbones to give us the correct camber (designed by Andy McG and Andy Robinson) with another minor suspension upgrade from Ohlins to match the new geometry.
We've decided to leave the mapping up to 425 bhp out as at 405 there is little material gain over burning a hole in something and the power to weight limit is marginal with me having lost 10 kgs and the risk of disqualification or being bumped up into Class 2 with the 430's,997's etc..If we can hold the speed in the bends then we will be on pace anyway, so no point chasing the margins!!
Oh and a Hans device for me, feels quite restrictive so we'll see how Friday goes!!
Our first race will be the support event for the A1GP at Brands over the first May Bank Holiday weekend, the grid appears to be virtually full already with it looking like Lamborghini, Porsche, BMW, Ferrari, Aston Martin, Lotus, Marcos, Morgan, Dodge,TVR
etc..being represented.
Cheers
Jonny

What size rims/rubber have you under it?
All the wheels are specially made Compomotive offsets to ensure we keep the rubber under the arches, we aren't allowed external body mods in our regs beyond splitters and diffusers and the Cerb will qualify for historic next year which is quite restrictive. Actually we have been invited to represent Britian in the Anglo American Challenge next year, two weekend four race series in either Florida or California, and we hyave to keep as close to original as possible, so block, gearbox casing, capacity etc...so we are mindful of anything that could make us un-eligable for these wider series. We have 9 inch 18s on the front with 245 Pirelli race tyres which are 250 Dunlop equivalents, actually they are 253 wide.
Rear are 10 x 18 with 265, which are slightly wider than the equiv Dunlop.
Cheers

You'll need to work out the additional tyre width that you'll get with road tyres if that's what you after.
Good to see the Cerb putting in a good show. Great pace and the handling looked excellent, nice and flat through the corners.
Good luck with the racing this year.
Tons more pics to check out, but for starters.

Thanks to everyone who showed up yesterday, we really appreciated the support and it is always great to see a few Cerbs about when we're on the track.
The pictures are great, look forwrad to seeing more!!
The one of me going through Paddock really shows the benefit of the new wishbones and the additional camber, really felt far more on it and no more washing out.
We were posting decent times by the end of it once I had got used to the new set-up and tyres, so we are very happy with the result. These are the control Pirelli tyre for the GT Cup and are a very hard compound, so I was particulalrly pleased that we got on the pace of the Ginetta G50s who were running on soft compound Michelin.
I've got to say that we are very pleased with the tyres, the wear looks minimal and we were quicker than last year and it was cold on Friday. They have to have a heat cycle and proper cool down for the chemistry to work, but once that has been done they really are very good.
Pace is right up and I am shifting earlier everywhere so the speed is being held better than before, I put this down to Andy's new suspnsion geometry and the set-up and maybe even the aero of the diffuser and exhausts.
I couldn't get out of the track when I was packing away for all of the interest by the 997 guys who were imressed by the pace of the Cerb, particulalrly when they found out that it was a standard AJP 4.5 block in a 14 year old ex road car. They loved the noise and though it had a Chevy in it!
Great start, can't wait for the races!!!
Jez, when are you getting a cage and extinguisher in yours??
All the best
Jonny
