Recommendations for a Cerbera inspector?
Discussion
Hi folks,
Having had my fill of unreliable german cars, I thought I'd have a look at a nice reliable british car like the Cerbera.
Given that I'm new to Cerberas and TVRs in general, can anyone point me to a reliable company/person who'll do an inspection of a cerbera in the North East?
Thanks very much

Try a search for Rob Ingleby.Having had my fill of unreliable german cars, I thought I'd have a look at a nice reliable british car like the Cerbera.

I've met him a couple of times when he's been looking over cars for people and he really knows his stuff. Comes well recommended too.
edited as I spelt his name wrong (sorry) and found his website

Might be worth giving James Agger a call, he's not quite the North East but I'm sure he'll be willing to help.
Neil.
Neil.
Thanks guys, much appreciated.
As TVR enthusiasts (if not owners) do you think I'm insane to go down the Cerbera route? My current heap of very expensive Kaiser-s
e has been costing me about £5 a mile in depreciation and servicing costs, and I'm wondering whether plonking for a cerbera will accelerate or decellerate the flow of funds from my account! Any views?
I tend to do only about 2K miles a year, and I'm envisaging keeping the car for 2 to 3 years.

The cost per mile will depend on the state of the cerbera you buy...this will depend on what your budget is and how well kept the car is / has been...an inspection is a good idea. These are not cheap cars to run however...As TVR enthusiasts (if not owners) do you think I'm insane to go down the Cerbera route? My current heap of very expensive Kaiser-s

Previous recommendations are all well regarded.
If you find a cerbera in the north east, ask the seller if he will take the car to Hexham Horseless Carriages, the local dealer...speak to Tony, sure he will do an inspection for you...£60 to £100 I would guess for an hour or so's work and will pick up all the usual things like chassis, engine, oil leaks, fault codes, etc...
Another good idea would be to pop along to the local TVR car club meetings...theres the teeside boys and my region, the north east...we meet on the second sunday of each month near the airport - not sure about the teeside meets?
Where abouts are you?
Alas I'm based in London most of the time, but the Cerbie I've spied is "up north" and as most southerners England stops at Watford I thought I'd try to find a local to look it over for me.
The car I have my eye on must be one of the last cerberas made and from what I hear you're best to go with as new as you can afford. Hence the attraction!

But it is a 6 cyl engine not the V8.
Thanks Gazzab. I hadn't noticed that (duh!), which clearly goes to show that I really do need someone to do an inspection
I have a V8 at the moment, although to be honest in London I might as well have a 50cc phut-phut. That said, it would be nice to stick with the V8 burble if I can.
Ah well, there's me thinking it would be nice easy way to get into Cerbie ownership. Guess I'll have to keep looking.
PS
In case you're interested
There's a very nice Cerbera 4.5 LW on Ebay for sale £19,995. The guy who owned it (TVRCC member) traded it in for an Aston Martin DB9. I spoke to the owner last year.
It appeared to be well looked after with all the right bits.
Worth having a look at IMO (if you're after a decent newer one)

Another
for James Agger here
PS
Is it the SP6 Cerb?
Er....I think so. The one I liked the look of is the blue one on James Agger's website, but I hadn't appreciated exactly what it was. I must admit to being a bit crap when it comes to these things.
PS
Is it the SP6 Cerb?
I'm sure I've seen some threads elsewhere about the relative merits of speed 6 and V8 engines. I will have to go do some more studying!

It also has the benefit of:
New clutch and slave cylinder
Nitrons
New Starter
New Alternetor
Goodridge Brake Hoses
New Power Steering Pump & Rack Overhauled
So quite a few of the usually suspects are covered there.
Chassis inspection is also crucial.

ps why dont you like the RS6 ? I would like a 4 door one.
I adore the RS6, it's a stonking car.....when it works. Audi's DRC suspension is awful and, as it turns out, can be downright dangerous. Having had the pleasure of a total suspension failure 2K after a rear suspension rebuild, it's time for me to wave bye-bye to the RS6 and Audi's as a whole. If I had my time again I would have read all the guff about Audi's DRC problems (the dealers deny ever having heard of any problems) and would have gone for a car with coilovers. If you can get one that has already had the DRC replaced, then you're on to a winner!
