Red Rose Question
Discussion
Hi All
Did all factory Red Rose Cerberas have exactly the same maps for 95 and 97 octane fuel programmed into the ecu or was each car mapped seperately on an individual basis?
Also if having a Cerbera Red Rosed today would there be any benefit in having maps programmed in for 97 and 99 octane fuels now that they are widely available or would this involve alot of rolling road work?
Regards
Simon

The red rose cars don't have two maps, just one. The button knocks three degrees out of the timing so you can use a lesser grade of fuel.
The red rose maps are better than standard, I had mine run up the other day very strong, climbing all the way to the limiter. Fuelling bang on as well.
I have wound mine back a bit, just 400 now, but looking to get the torque up and holding in the mid range. Unfortunately my pas side manifold is cracked at the previous weld point, so I'm putting the ACT manifolds on will let you chaps know how it goes.
You could have two maps put in though you need a duel chip, can be done. I would get a power run done making sure the fuelling is safe before doing anything else.

You could do that, though I wouldn't.
The red rose cars run a higher compression, they need good fuel or they will detonate.
As I mentioned get a power run done making sure the fuelling is safe. If it is shown to be good then leave it alone.
Are you after more power? Or just looking to make sure everything is running as it should be? Or do you like the idea of two maps?
Do you like the way the car makes power, or are you looking to improve it in some way?
There are many upgrades I would consider before mapping that will give a far greater benefit for you and the car.
What are you looking to achieve?

I have a valve guide seal gone on No.7 cylinder, the front cover also has a small oil leak and I too have a cracked manifold. In short it's an engine out job to sort all these problems.
I have thought about having Her Red Rosed before and thought this may be an ideal opportunity.
What I would like is around 400 BHP and a smoother power delivery low down in the rev range.
She's totally standard at the moment apart from having no cats.
What are your thoughts?

If you're having the engine out it would make sense to get everything done in one go.
Personally I would be looking to have the bottom end balanced, you could have new rods and pistons at the same time. It would also make sense to have the throttle bodies and heads cleaned up while it's in bits. All you have to decide is who does the work.
Austec, Andy at APM, John Reid, power, castle, straight8, there are a few choices. Ring around and have a chat with them.
A rebuilt 4.5 with upgraded parts will easily give a reliable 400bhp.
I would have a word with Tim at ACT regards manifolds. You could have the old ones repaired but they will brake again it's just a matter of time.
The ACT ones are far superior.
It will cost a few quid, but if you plan on keeping the car I would get it done, then you can have the car you have always wanted.

Is this for longevity Nick? As I recall you were running 440bhp before and then had some problems. Do you think this was mainly due to the power level you were running or was it just bad luck (or something else) in your opinion?SimonKD said:

What mileage was this at (apologies if this is a rude question)?Yours is a fabulous late model cerb, it seems ridiculous that the valve guide seals have gone already, although the manifold seems par for the course (I am fully expecting mine to crack at some point
)We have a 2002 factory RR and Racing Green remapped it when the higher octane (98 or 99) came out on a nationwide basis. We run on vpower but where the need arises we half fill with 97 or 98 and then top up with Shell asap. We have never used 95 and have never reset the switch. The best fuel is the good stuff in France and the Cerb loves it on the trip to Le Mans. Technically speaking you get bigger bangs out of the exhaust to scare the locals

I had my 4.5 rebuilt last year and while it was out I had the extra Red Rose work done plus rods/pistons matched, crank/flywheel balanced up etc. It was definately worth the extra work, 409hp and smooth, very drivable, pick up is instant.I have thought about having Her Red Rosed before and thought this may be an ideal opportunity.

If I didn't have the RR work done I would be regretting it big time, all the engines should of been done to the higher RR standard of build in the first place.
