just purchased my first TVR (ex Lotus, cosworth and Jag owner). Bought the 2001 4.5 topaz blue lightweight in the PH classified section.
Really happy..last owner was a TVR fanatic he had 5, the car is in stunning condition and it is a credit to him.

I was hoping to attend a TVR meeting / trackday soon, I live in Reading Berkshire. Can anybody recommend what meeting to attend. I've been reading lots of your threads about tuning the AJP it seems its a costly engine to tune, has anybody ever tried FI on these engines even at a low pressure ?

I love crytal topaz and the interior goes really well with it and it looks nice and clean inside also.

Hi. A 4.5 is cheap as chips to tune - ECU remap and whirlwind induction.

Welcome thumbup

From the pics it looks like yours has had aftermarket induction hoses fitted (as std they are purple when new/brown after a couple of years) but the usual tuning mod is for short induction as Gazza says. The only other thing to consider is exhaust/decat. ACT and Silverstone Performance are the main vendors there. Once those are done a remap is a must, it makes a big difference smile

I wish it was an aftermarket induction kit but the previous owner told me he had just painted the old ones black to make them look nice.
silly question and i'm being lazy but how much is short induction kit dekat pipes and remap. It already has a sports exhaust from i think TVR power.

Hi Paul. There are a couple of owners in the area - i can think of at least 5 running along the M4 from Newbury through to Maidenhead. If you're in the TVRCC then they have just started meeting at a new venue in Bracknell on a Tuesday evening. I've not been myself though.

Congrats on the purchase - will probably see you out and about fairly soon!

Hi and another welcome.

I have kept the long induction pipes (think I'll paint them now!), but have had Austec remap the ECU.
Shot up from 358 to 413 BHP.

But I do suggest that if the car is running OK, that you leave it alone for a while and get used to it and just enjoy it.

After the remap it is a true beast!

413bhp and *just* a remap? Has anything else been done to get an exceptionally high figure like 413bhp?

Jules.

ps To the OP congrats on the new Cerb...

I am also quite suprised at such a high figure on just a remap.

No, it was 358.6 (at the charity day last year) before and 413.5 after, according to the Austec print outs! Ann told me it would probably read higher on Charlies rollers as their cars often do!!!eek

At the same time it did have a 12,000 service.
But you'll have to ask Paul what he does with the cam timing, as I suspect he may have his own settings??

First gear just spins the rears in the dry off the throttle with cold tyres!
No need to abuse the clutch!
I think the guy with the video camera caught me "at it" as I left the V-Water meet last Sunday!

Third gear does the same in damp conditions just off the throttle, which is why I suggested the OP get used to it first! (Mind you I think some TR-1 rears might help!)

All this lead me to suspect the TVR claim of 420 is what it was designed to do, but they thought it was just too much to handle and not kill all the nice new owners!

Hmmmm, not so sure. It took most of us years to get to 400 nevermind 410+ and that was with remap, short induction, filter mods and big bore exhaust. Either you've got a special engine (which I doubt), or the dyno was having one of notoriously good days.

Figures aside I bet it still goes well and is the car TVR should have always delivered.

Jules.

I've got 411 (Charlie SRR) and I've got all of the above (I think)

About right for the mods. Best I ever saw was 420bhp, but with normal tune and set-up about 410-415bhp (TCS remap on Emerald, Whirlwind Induction, filter mod, BB Exhaust)

Seems very high doesn't it.

Shame that there's only now one place, to my knowledge, offering to remap the MBE.

So, how easy is it to 'recalibrate' your own rolling road. scratchchin

I'm beginning to think: 'There are lies, damned lies, and rolling road printouts!'
