Alternator replacement

Is it right that the alternator for 97 cerb 4.2 is the same as 3.9 petrol discovery? If so I think the part number is AMR3107. Is this right? Are they difficult to change, I have the fuel rail off already but it still looks awkward to get to. Thanks. Regards Tim

Don't know about the equivalent part number - have you looked at that listing at the top of the Forum?

But I can give you encouragement on replacement - I didn't actually do mine, but I 'helped' and 'we' replaced the alternator without removing the fuel rail - so you should be fine!

As far as I can recall, we just removed the alternator (no mounting plate) and it was manoeuvred through the fuel rail (eventually) and new one back in the same way. My job was to hold it in position with a long screwdriver, whilst the bolts were secured.

Does that make sense?

(Oh and I meant to add earlier that my car is also a 97 4.2 in case you are wondering! )
