I need cheering up guys, the ajp conversion in my griff is taking some time, just don`t have enough hours in the day to work on it at the moment, and what with this lovely weather I`m getting quite cheesed off!
I rekon I`m a couple of months away from getting it on the road, but thought you guys could just give me an insight as to what to expect when I finally get this thing alive, so , what rpm range is best for the pops an bangs on the overrun, whats the pick up like when the foot hits the pedal, will I really prefer it to the old 5lt rv8, come on, just cheer me up a little and give me something to look forward tohehe

Recipe to scare Grannies, fist shaking OAPs, thumbs up from teenagers and how to make babies cry...

AJP8
2nd Gear
2,800 - 3,100 revs
Gently on/off the throttle

Bang, did, de, bang, bang...pop-flames-bang!

Get back in the garage, quick.

Pops and bangs in all gears, just can't stop it biggrin, every time I ease off the loud pedal, off it goes again, especially lower revs between 2k - 3k, it can be a little embarrassing as I just found out drivin through Bath's high sided streets. Sounded great but just a little much, but then my zorst is a one off and fully de-catted....... if only you could hear it!

Also havin a RV8 450, I know what the comparisons are like and the AJP is very dozy down the rev range. The revs need to be worked and driving on the road is a different experience between the two. The Cerb is not responsive unless you are working the revs, whereas the RV8 is always responsive and ready to go from low revs. Don't get me wrong, the AJP is actually a smoother engine and will pull easily from 1k revs..... just not too responsive down there, as revs are best and what a beast on the open road. Chalk and cheese compared to the RV8 when working it. yes

thanks guys, I know what you mean with the comparrison to the rv8, I drove mikes griff with the ajp in and found it very smooth in low revs a pleasure to drive in fact because the more I tuned the rover the more lumpy at bottom end it became which I was used to living with until I drove mikes car, the only let down was when I went to put my foot down at 4k rpm mike`s throttle was so stiff at the time that I didn`t have my foot down as far as I thought, so never really experienced the get up and go of the thinghehe

but pops an bangs are a big must have in my book, I had my old engine fitted with a kms ecu by Joo and deliberately mapped for pops an bangs on the over run and it sounded like a gattling gun going offhehebut have always been drawn to the ajp because cerbs just seem to do it so without even trying and sounds so much nicer than the rover lump when doing so, I really can`t wait to get the damned thing finished, I need to win the lotto and just work on the car 24/7 yes

O`h well the sun`s out again today, so will have to do a bit of gardening insteadhehe

This might help cheer you up.
1: Our weather here is going to be 2 more months before it is nice enough to drive 1 of our Tivs.
2: Our newest Tiv is a 1979 and you drive a 1996.
3: We have to use 3 different paint shops this winter to paint 3 cars. Not 1 of the paint shops had the time to do all 3.
4: Maybe 6 to 8 more weeks to good hooning weather if we get a car back by then.
5: Your parts are just a phone call away and ours are phone calls/e-mails and then sometimes up to 6 weeks wait with an extra import tax bill.
6: Did I mention almost 2 more months before acceptable driving weather???

Did that help...I hope so....Now I need cheering up...Hope it rains here for 40 days and nights.

clive im in the same boat as you. this sunny weather just makes me mad, i wish i never pulled her apart and kept her on the road or just pulled my finger out and worked harder and faster through the winter.

now ive timed it up with your help over the phone i can speed along with things and get the engine in the car.

but boy o boy when yours is finally up and running you will be grinning like a chesire cat. you will want to drive it all the time and the amount of petrol you will burn will be excessive but it wont bother you.

A thought that crossed my mind was a sort of tvr charity/group, where volunteers agree to dates and we go for a spin to that member's place or the lucky person trailers the car to a central location/donated garage for the day where we all meet and all lend a hand in getting the car ready for the sun shine. im sure people who diy their cars would love a group of tvr nuts coming over for the day to get dirty and help paint chassis/sand stuff/put together parts or help with rebuilding engines or interiors or whole cars/ strip a cerb/griff etc. this could help members in need and im sure others that attend would learn something from other members. good deeds don't go un-noticed, and it would alternate to different members so we could eventually help all and get as many cerbs on the road as possible.

i'd be interested in knowing peoples thoughts on the above. id be up for putting my spanners and sockets in the boot of the cerb and heading up country to help and meet others.

About 2 weeks ago i had my first thumbs down OAP standing in the middle of the road like some Chinese Student protester.

Drove up to him slowly and dropped my window down and just as slowly would my middle finger up on my right hand. Burbled away.

I could understand it if her had 20 cerbs driving past his house everyday whilst listening to Womans Hour...Soppy old .

Now I need major cheering up..... I posted earlier that it could be 6 to 8 weeks before we had acceptable driving weather for my Tivs. Sorry I lied as I just got the NEW weather forecast for the next 7 days and we have a small "chinook" coming in. Last week we had lots of snow on the ground and an average of minus 8 to minus 10 degrees C. The next 6 days it is going to be between plus 11 and plus 14 degrees C. By next weekend there will be no snow on the ground and the roads will be bone dry and I won't have a Tiv in my driveway. Well I guess I will have to be happy with going to the shop and visit my cars there and I hope I can be forgiven for this but I may have to take a Miata (MX5) out for a test drive. Next winter I will have to remember not to allow more than 2 cars to be in the shop at any time for their winter repairs.
