Here is a vid of the amount of play in the wheel the P/S pump attatches to:

http://s205.photobucket.com/albums/bb202/cbra450/?...

After taking the wheel off, it shows there is more room than there should be where the 'woodruff key' slots into. And as pointed out by Budaholic, its going to sheer off after a while. Which I agree. Its only a matter of time.

I'm guessing I need a new shaft. Trouble is, I can see this being an involved job.
Has anyone changed this shaft, and what does it involve? And more importantly, how much does a new one cost?

Cheers

Replacing the woodruff key and/or the shaft is an engine out job - apparently - although looking at your video I can't understand why.

The 'cure' is to fit an electric pump from a Citroen Saxo. All the standard Cerb hoses and connections fit it perfectly. It needs about 30A so some decent wiring and a relay are required. But it's meant to be a fairly straight forward, and asuccesful, and proven conversion. Hope this helps.

Not really an option Alan. I've already bought a new P/S pump, which I got at cost.
I'll buy a new key and see if its a good fit. But if the slot the key fits into is enlarged/mis-shaped due to the play, then I guess I\ll have to look down the new shaft route.

Cheers

I have vague recollections of the earlier woodruff keys being smaller than later items and more prone to giving up.

Yes Steve, I just phoned Power and all they have are the later 'taller' keys. So I will just file it down to fit.

Also, more worryingly, they can no longer get hold of the shafts that go through the pumps. I'm hoping I've caught this early enough, and the key will still fit snugly enough into the shaft. I also might re tap the grub screw hole and put a new one in.
