Now I’m one of those TVR owners that get irritated by those non-owners that seem to take pleasure from telling me how unreliable these wonderful machines are. Met someone the other day that claimed every time his brother went out in his Grif, his wife would sit beside the phone waiting for the call so he could be rescued. Yes we would all like ultimate reliability but it is also an enthusiast’s thing. Having corrected the misguided soul, told him to buy German and sent him on his way, I was a little distraught when I had my first TVR moment a few hours later. Arrived at the golf club and had to get out using the emergency exit – bad start. Of course, I couldn’t open the boot to get my clubs out, nor dared to shut the door in case I couldn't get back in. Fortunately, even in this dark moment, I remembered a Pistonheads posting about not panicking and waiting half an hour. I decided to change in to my golf kit in the car park (not a petty sight) and sure enough 10 minutes later all back to normal. Had disastrous round of golf and went home. The fact that the brakes were still squealing after about 5 miles of driving and the drivers window wouldn’t fully close when I use the up/down buttons, mean they are becoming characters of the car. After I had to use the emergency exit for a second time yesterday, I decided to do another Pistonheads search and look for forums on doors, windows and brakes. Sure enough plenty of previous posts and good advice, so today spent a very enjoyable day giving Cerbie some TLC. First I made the 10-mile roundtrip and treated her to some Optimax – sounds and runs much better! When I got home I took off door trims, cleaned connectors and wrapped in little plastic bags – hope that sorts the door opening problem. Took the brake pads out and smeared with copper grease – done the fronts, where I thought the squealing was coming from but on test run problem remains, I’ll do the rear during the week, see if that works. All good stuff but the window closure is confounding me. I had hoped the connector clean up may have solved this but no improvement. Window closes fine when you set the alarm and if you open and close the door. However, if I open the window whilst in the car, when closing it stops about 3cm short. If I open and close the door it will close fully – obviously not always practical - anyone any clues ??

Check the reed switch, which is operated as the window goes up and down. The little arm can fall off, as mine does regularly - mod coming up me thinks, or as I've discovered in the past, it can look like the switch is working OK, however it wasn't getting pushed in far enough by the glass, and needed a bit of shimming to bring it out far enough to completly make contact.

I've just read through that, and it doesn't make much sense - I may edit tommorow when I've had some sleep!!!!

Good luck.

Thanks, I am missing the anti-squeal backing shims referred to in this link. I will get some and hopefully, they will make a difference. Have to say, since applying the copper slip, the noise is now always present and not just when hot but I will try all the options suggested.
