When pressing the slave cylinder back into the bellhousing, what lubricant, if any, is safe to use to ease the process?
And when putting the new seals in, do you put them in dry, and then smear rubber grease around the new seal? Can you use as much as you like? I'm just not up on the finer workings of the thing. I'm only changing them because the bearing needed replacing.

I've not worked with rubber grease before, nor done anything with a clutch and its anciliaries for that matter. So any tips appreciated.

Below is a pic of the slave for reference.

Thanks

I just used the brake fluid to lubricate mine.

Make sure all the edges on the slave are smooth, no knicks or dents and that the grooves are de-burred.

Also ensure that the bleed holes are 12 and 6 o'clock and that you use NEW countersunk bolts WITH thread lock.

I used Silkolene Red Race grease on mine, use plenty, make sure you dont pinch the seals when assembling. Also as said above, lightly polish smooth all the components(i used scotchbrite) and remove any sharp edges. As a tip for pressing the cylinder into the bellhousing,to make it easier put the slave cylinder in the freezer for an hour or two & gently heat the bellhousing up in the oven(I did!) and it will just drop into the bellhousing!

Lol! Nice tip. Think I'll give that a try biggrin Thanks.

Cheers also Matt for the info. I shall go over the slave again with the wet&dry sponge mat/scourer to do a better job on the edges. Already did the inside of the barrel where the two parts slide up and down (lol, very technical).

I'm not entirely sure which bits I should be lubriacting and which bits not to. So I'm just going to put the rubber grease around all the rubber seals to prevent pinching. And use the freezer/oven method hehe

just make sure you put plenty of grease on the seals, clutch fluid will good enough to lubricate the other parts.
