Maybe I got all a little excited this beautiful sunny morning and brimmed the tank before my 35 mile journey to work. When I left work I discovered a terrible fuel smell in the boot and discovered what I think was either a leak from the filler neck soaking the mats, or I've a hole in my tank high up. Mats are all out drying in the evening sun, boot airing. Pooee!wobble

Done a search but just wondering if anyone else had this before and found a solution?

Have a look to see if the fuel was coming out of the roll-over valve. That would be my guess.

What and where is the roll over valve?

The roll-over valve, also sometimes called the breather valve, is a little black object, roughly cyclindrical in shape. It sits just above the fuel tank on the passenger side of the car, and should be orientated in a vertical plane. Its purpose is to allow the fuel tank to breath in air as its being emptied in order to prevent a vacuum forming (it doesnt actually work all that well, as often you can hear the "woosh" when you open the fuel cap), whilst at the same time preventing liquid/vapour fuel from escaping the tank.

Its worth having a look at that anyway, though by now any "evidence" may have evaporated!
