1st Factory 4.5 in classifieds
Discussion
P799 TFR the first 4.5 that the press were let loose with is for sale in the classifieds.

Its advertised as a 4.2 and when first tested other than the 4.5 engine (with carbon intakes) it was identical to a 4.2 (wheels / brakes / badges). Top Gear tested it when it "only" had 200 miles on the clock and recorded 0-100 in 8.78secs and 0-150 in 18.78secs. Shortly afterwards it had an unfortunate excursion into the scenery whilst being tested by Performance Car.
Don't know if it still has its original test engine fitted or not, but it looks abit tired in the advert and the seller is open to offers. A piece of TVR history for someone.

This car was featured in the July 1997 edition of Top Gear and it was for this article that they recorded the times - it was compared against an Aston Vantage, AC Cobra and Viper GTS.
This is the article for Performance Car :- http://www.lotusespritworld.com/ERoadtests/Perform...
You'll notice no times were recorded as it ended up in the scenery before they got chance to record them.
The second "press" 4.5 was the red one P808 DCK which again had carbon intakes and standard badging, but had the bigger brakes and 17" RL's. Autocar tested it and even after it going back to the factory to be fettled it would not replicate the times achieved by P799 TFR and was no quicker than the 4.2 (N244 KCW) they had tested previously.
