After a flawless trackday a week ago and running beautifully from London to Chatsworth, and a great hoon round the Peak District, the Cerb developed a really nasty intermittent misfire under light throttle.

At its worst the revs were hunting up and down while idling and the engine was cutting out entirely coming off idle! I fully expected to be coming back courtesy of the AA but with application of a bit of right foot it seemed to disappear and run ok(ish). At motorway speeds it was fine and I managed to get back home.

I have just put the diagnostics on the ECU but cant see anything out of the ordinary, lambda sensors both seem to be working, no faults logged for anything, adaptives seem to be in a reasonable range (-2 & -6) (Joo remapped it in September) but still a slight misfire at idle.

Oddly when I started her up the idle speed was at 900 but increased to 1400 as it warmed up.
I drove round the block and at light throttle it chugs and lurches, a bit more throttle and it seems ok.

Any ideas gratefully received.

Are the pots in step as you open up the throttle? If there's a diff of 3 or more then the ECU can be looking at a different place in the map for each bank which doesn't make for smooth running.

Sounds like it could be an air leak

Thanks - I will look at this at the weekend - I did have the inlets off relatively recently so is got to be a possibility.

I'm getting a missfire under load. Then it clears itself. So far i have changed coil packs, leads, pots and fuel regulator and the problem is still there.

So am I. Sometimes the bang is so enormous all little old ladies within a 2-mile radius keel over.

Both coil packs are new, got new leads going in this weekend.

After I've repainted the cam covers.

Oh - look - I removed the induction hoses to get at the old plug leads, pulled the leads out, then noticed the cam covers' paint was peeling off. So removed them, have wire brushed them and will be painting them soon.

It was a 'quick little job' that kinda extended itself.
