Right my cerb has been off the road all winter but I have had it on trickle charge and started it up regularly. It started fine last week but now I want it back on the road it wont bloody start!
My key fob has been playing up and I was going to replace it but have kept it unlocked and just used the "plug in" part of the fob to disable the immobiliser before I started it. Now however when I do the same procedure the red light stops flashing and stays lit but no whirring sound of the ignition and fuel pump, just the usual dash lights "light up". Where do I start now guys??

I've had this problem.

First thing I'd check is whether you have power getting to the fuel punmp (bolted to the nearside rear of the chassis). If you've got power there but the fuel pump isn't priming I'd give it a sharp tap with a light hammer or a socket extension or something similar. They can stick and that will often free them up. After that you might find that it sticks again in which case you'll need to change it or it might be OK again if used regularly.

If there's no power to the pump then I'd check the big fuse wiring and immobilizer.

Let us know how you get on!

I have had a similar issue a few weeks back. Worked fine and a couple of hours later it would not start. The lights came on on the dash but when I hit the button it did nothing. The good chaps at the TVR centre suggested I unplag the batt and also check the connections of the relevant elctronic boxes in the boot. I did both and she started no problem at all. Only takes five mins so if you have not already done those two things that is probably a good place to start.

In my case it was a problem with the starter switching on circuits. I made up an alternative consisting of a switch to provide voltage which energised a relay when I pressed a large switch. The relay fed current to the starter solenoid. A red LED told me when voltage was applied to the solenoid. This worked perfectly. Recently, I got the buttons under the steering wheel to work perfectly. I did what a PHer had suggested on here (last year?). I cut the starter wires to and from the immobiliser and joined them. Interestingly, I had paid an expert for three hours work to check my electrics and he had pronounced my immobilizer fit for purpose a few months ago. How wrong he was! Your problem could be different but then again it may not.

Wiggle the wiring loom going into the immobiliser while you are pressing the start button and see if the car starts.

It probably will.

It is a bit of a stretch to press the button and wiggle the loom at the same time so you might need someone to help you.

Had this happen on mine too. Mine was usually solved by unplugging the immobiliser and plugging back in.

No idea why it cures it but it did. laugh

Finally got around to havin a go at it today and disconnected the battery and the door/window conrol box then recconected them both..... the alarm went nuts and the drivers window went up and locked the doors. Luckily I had still left the boot open so i disconnected the battery again and then gained access in the front. But when I re-connect the battery now the alarm goes off and even if I disconnect it the alarm sounds off but quietly rolleyes. Now before you all shout "Carl Baker" I want to see him and get some new fobs but without the car driveable and havin no mot at present Im bksed. What can I do next?

shout Carl Baker hehe

Seriously........This does sound like an alarm issue. When my alarm needed replacing the way it told me was to just go off all the time, quieter when disconnected as it's using the little alarm back up battery, then louder when connected to the main battery. Carl will tell you how to do a temporary fix to enable you to drive to see him.

PS I'm assuming your car starts OK, and everything else, immobiler related, is working.

The relays in the immobiliser can stick (old age), mine did this and Carl helped me diagnose. What confirmed it was that a tap on the immobiliser box while holding the start button was all that was required to spark the old girl into life. At this point I drove to Carl and he swapped the immobilser out for me. I suspect this is actually the cause of quite a few why won't it start scenarios - for instance the holding the starter button down for half an hour problem.
