Dim headlights

last night my normal beam headlights suddenly went dim. The sidelights are ok as is the main beam. The headlights normal beam do light up - just very dim.

Anyone else had this?

Where do I start as an electrical numpty.

Fuse - will check as its obvious but unlikley
Headlight switching unit on rear shelf
after that earths?

Big fuse first.

Then the light box on the fuel tank. My moneys on the wiring/connector going.

My money's on the wiring connector going into box - as above.

spot on chaps - 2 singed wires leading into the switch control unit. Will dismantle it sunday

Just had the same problem; the connector is slightly melted, so I'm assuming the unit is FUBAR ?

Ring any bells with anyone ?

Not necessarily, fixing the connectors (soldering direct) might fix it. If there's a high resistance/poor connection at the connector it can melt the wiring block. Not uncommon to have these symptoms and a succesful fix.
