Left intake off
Disconnect battery
Remove rear intake hose for easier access
Dissconnect battery
Loosen starter bolts ad don't loose anything in the bellhousing
Undo the 12mm nut on starter main power cable
Loosen wires and pipes attached to bulkhead
Wiggle starter out

It is a real tight fit.

Just done mine. With the right tools and a methodical approach it was a morning's work for me. Above description is spot on. I also removed a few more things to give more access: eg bonnet latch bar, throttle linkage, expansion bottle. I also used this as an opportunity to renew the 100A fuse and holder.

Very surprised a garage could not do it, I did mine on the drive with very few tools.

Yep, very easy. You'll probably have to remove the fuel rail too....

I found taking the fuel rail off gave a lot more space to get my fat hands in there and the motor out. Just make sure you disconnect the battery other wise you'll short it on the clutch bleed pipe and melt through it and burn your hands and soil your pants, well I did anyway.

i got mine out without taking of the fuel rail... it was indeed tight

mind you, what everyone has missed of in the instructions between each step is..

"swear and curse at tvr for putting starter here"

I too took the fuel rail off. I suggest investing in new injector 'O' rings at the same time.

I would have loved to see a ham fisted baby elephant trying his best to dissconnect the battery while the clutch fluid was on fire.....

Well after just only 2 hrs work I had the old one out, new one in and all running great!
Still cant get over the fact the garage said they couldn't do it!! Needless to say I wont be using them again.

Well done that man ! Might have been too daunting a prospect for the garage, maybe they were thinking of all the potential disasters they could have caused.
