Whilst aquaplaning along the M1/A1 link last night (not fun), the following 1.5" bolt (with spring on it) dropped out from the steering column:
There's no longer any automatic-centering (spring) on the indicator stalk, and the travel on it seems much further to get the indicators to work (I'm surprised they work at all with the way it feels).
The bolt's discoloured at the bottom 1/4", so I'm guessing that's all of it that screws in, and that there's some panel/something that the spring on it butts up against... Any ideas, anyone?
Cheers! -JS

This looks like the bolt around which the indicator stalk pivots...

Thanks, that sounds like just the trick... will start doing my stretches now to limber up for getting behind the steering column tonight!
Serious brown-trouser moment when that dropped out whilst sliding out-of-control at 80mph, tho!
[Update]: Only took about 5 minutes to get it all sorted, including 4 1/2 minutes of trying to wedge myself in the footwell. Not half as bad a job as the other thread made it sound (thankfully). Thanks again!

the same thing happened to me last month, I flicked the indicator and thought...
I'll just give it a wiggle to see if it's working loose..
clunk the unit dropped down and that bl**dy bolt fell out.
It's all safe and sound now as it was on it's way to Joospeed at the time for a service.
