Has anyone changed their ratio?
I think mine is the standard 3.45,reckon my diff is knackered so might change the ratio while its being rebuilt. Loose a bit of top end but when do you really need that sort of speed?

Relaxed cruising on the motorway? Just my opinion, but I'd prob leave alone. If you want to play with gear ratios, then play with the 'box. IMHO.

Are you finding finding the Cerb a bit slow after the Fiat and Peugoet?? Try pushing the (long reach) accelerator all the way to the floor. If you still think it's not quick enough, well you've got bigger bks than I have biggrin:

Yeah the fiat was in a different league!!

Would be nice to have it pull a bit more in fourth and fifth

Are the gear box ratios that different to the tuscan? if so then the speed v rev ratio will be similar.

Thats the nature of the Engine, a traditionall V8 will give you that pull, but with the Cerb you have to drive it. Use the Gear box and Engine, and you make the car fly, it's not a car that the engine alone makes it fast. Many new owners, including me, find that after a couple of months, you suddenly just get it.

When I depress the loud pedal fully at motorway speeds I find the cars in the rear mirror get smaller quite quickly.
I would not want any shorter gearing for motorway driving as long distances would become uncomfortable.

You're joking right?

I was really surprised at fighting torque just how quick the cars were. My car was pulling hard in all gears to the rev limiter and I left it in 4th with the rev limiter beeping for the 3/4 mile finishing line at 155mph in something like 26 secs from a standing start. For the last run I pulled 5th after the line and kept going and the bloody thing was still pulling hard at 177mph when I decided enough was enough. And that's from a lowly 4.2. Imagine how a short induction 400+ bhp 4.5 must pull above 100mph.

I can't quite remember the speeds but you get something like 35mph in first, 75mph in second, 110-115 in 3rd, 155 in 4th...

I think the cerbera is quite deceptive as to how fast you are actually going.

Another thought is are you using all the rev range or stopping about 6k revs. There's quite a bit of grunt between 6k & 7.5k

I could possibly understand it for something like the sprint challenge but then I wonder about wheelspin

So if your not using the full protential of the car (190mph+) why have it? you may as well have even more pull in 4th/5th and hit the limiter earlier at the top speed your more likely to do.

Granted the cruising rpm will be higher but not by that much and cartainly no higher than most other performance cars. 1st gear is hardly a usable gear any way so it wont be much of a loss having to short shift to 2nd where with 888's you should still be able to use most of the power.

Ive often thought these cars need a taller final drive not a shorter one. Make first gear more useable in terms of limiting wheelspin. Make the direct drive (ie minimal power loss) fourth gear extend higher up the speed range and have 5th gear as a proper cruising gear, the cerb could pull a taller 5th gear easily.

This is my thinking also. Cruising at 70mph means pulling about 3k revs which is too much. I would love a 6th gear. Anyone know the rough cost of a 6 speed box for the cerb?

£2699 inc VAT smile

Fitting it though could be slightly tricky though (cough, splutter, understatement!!!)

hmmm.....

Get myself a classic rangey or an extra gear scratchchin

I am so glad I am single! You would never be able to justify paying 3 grand for an extra gear to a woman!

Things that remain unsaid do not have to be justfied. hehe

Here is a topic regarding the T56:-

http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=3&a...

Seriously though, the box is unfortunately a big bespoke job, I believe there are at least two Cerbs with it, both with Chevy engines and I'm sure one of them had to cut and re-weld part of the chassis (body was off the chassis for this)!!!!!

That's as much as I know. Thought it best to clarify smile.

Thats a shame I will just look at extending the diff ratio a bit then.

I have a 4.5 RR with short induction and it is quick, and the revs get used beleive me.
Having it rev a bit more on motorway driving wouldn't be a big deal in my book. Yeah its going to spin up easier in the low gears if your not careful but hey.
I am just looking at the options, and maybe see it as a cheap way to increase the acceleration after 60mph
