Hiya all - unfortunately my cars been in for overhaul of the nearside calliper, turns out its snatching to the right. I think the Red Rose disks I have; are basically on their way out. so no sunshine driving. :-(

I don't want to buy another set (of the TVR's), as I think they're crap. I know some of you are lucky enough to have the Alloy Bells, anyone got any of these spare, or had extra pairs made up. or know of a set?

Also looking at grooved rotors/disks to fit on the "not yet found alloy bells".

Advice thoughts would be great as I know others have battled with this. Steve_T BG do they make them up?

cheers
Dean

I upgraded to 343mm discs, still using the standard 4.5 caliper. I had to relieve the inner corners of the caliper to make em fit. I have just bought a THIRD set of spare AP discs because i got them at £50 a pop!

I was going to go to Joolz before he shut up shop as he supplies grooved discs for the alloy bells, although they were not cheap.

As front rear side calliper piston was leaking – only rebuilt 2 years ago naming no names! I think oil is on the pad. All been fixed but it’s snatching to the right under heavy breaking. Snatching could be a contaminated pad or gripping a corroded rear side of the disk? Not sure? Any thoughts

Wondering if any advice could be had. Options are:

1. Replace contaminated pad and hope this is the issue – but disks will need to be replaced at later stage
2. Get disks skimmed and replace contaminated pad.
3. As one piece disk currently on there – look at sourcing “alloy bell” so I can buy new disk rotor parts from AP.
4. Does you know where I can source alloy bell - tried everywhere, BG have offered to make one up.. but need original?

Snatching is under heavy breaking and is quite frightening. Does anyone have experience with “grooved” or “hooked” disks on the Cerbera?

Mine are groved AP 330x28s on std bells. No issues that I've noticed but I expect they create more brake dust than a standard setup.

Dean

You can borrow my old bells to get some made up if you pay for the postage

And I think these are the discs you need

I need to replace my disks but the little bolts that the rotor is bolted in with are completely rusted, can I just grind them off?

I found a snapon cordless impact driver did the business. Had to persuade the socket and allen key on/in a bit first though.

I had issues with mine when I first got it that the oil cooler had burst and had soaked the nearside caliper, disc, pads etc in oil.

Fixed leak
Cleaned disc and fitted new pads

After that I still had issues with pulling right. After a good few heavy braking efforts, another clean of the disc and another set of pads it seems to be fixed.

Does anyone know what size the hex-heads are? Last time I looked, even allowing for surface corrosion, they seemed to be between two sizes on an integer number of mm basis! They're not imperial are they?

Theyre imperial. there's no good reason for trying to spanner them off, you need to replace them anyway when you fit the new discs. just grind them off, but from the back where you will only damage the old disc.

That makes sense, but obviously slightly more finesse would be required when bolting new rotors to the bells (with new bolts). Is there any imperative to go imperial again at that juncture or can you take the opportunity to go metric?

The bolt kit is standard AP so I just went with that (BG Dev supplied to me), you'll be stuck with imperial unless you can get alternative bolts which fit an imperial hole in the disc and yet have metric nuts and heads.

I've have sourced some bells from Joo - now TopCats (seen as they race a lot) have recommended the "hook" grooved disks give the best bite. then its Grooved, then drilled in terms of performance. I'm keeping away from drilled as they crack.

and looking at the 330mmx30mm disks. how many on here have converted?

Dean let me know how you get on with sourcing the grooved discs, cost etc, I will need to be replacing my drilled front discs soon on my RR Tuscan, and it has the same calipers and bells as the 4.5 Cerb. Cheers, Whitey

Apologies if it has been posted before but the above guy made up replacement kits for Alcon brakes on my old P1 for a good price although I didnt get them from him in the end. Looking at his site I would think he could source something?

I just emailed a guy who made up some kits for the P1s (not Godspeed), and got the following response. He might be worth following through a cerb brake upgrade project:-

Hi Gary,

Yes I still deal in brake kits (mostly export now) but still service all previous customers kits.

Do you have the following info', if not i'll do some more digging:
Disc outside diameter:
Disc thickness:
Disc pad depth (eg. D50 (50mm)), this is the height of the pad.
Bell PCD & number of holes:
Standard AP disc part number (wishful thinking perhaps):

Theres quit a few more details to check but these'll do to start with.

I assume they are AP discs and plain faced as standard?

When you say decent discs, what exactly is the problem people are having?

Hopefully the calipers are radially mounted and still have some clearance between the caliper and wheel to allow a slightly bigger disc depending upon whats available at what price.
The price of discs varies considerably so its very important to stick with the most commonly used (cheapest) discs.
This can mean 2/3rds the price of similar sized un-popular disc.
I've recently been dealing with bigger orders and can arrange more discount than say Joe Blogs going direct to AP with a group buy order (5, 10 pairs of discs).

I'm in both Slough (most weekends) and Aylesbury (most week days) so if you know of anyone local I can meet up to have a quick look or send me some pics.

Please pass on this email to anyone inerested.

I hope you and the family are well, have you made it out to the 'ring yet?

Cheers, Stuart
