Engine getting to warm ?
Discussion
Hi !
Last sunday I was on a trip with brittish cars here in Sweden. It was all kinds of cars and all kind of years from the 50´s up to 2003´s on the cars. The outdoor temperetaure was 25-28 degres and the sun was shining from a clear blue sky so the aircon was on. The 50´s cars was going slow at times, about 50 km/h (35mph). At that speed for 15-30 minutes the engine temp in my car was steady on 92-97 degres (both coolant and oil)and did not come down to 80-85 degres until I was going about 80-90 km/h. At a couple of times the coolant temp did hit 100 degres for about 30 secs. The cooling fans work ok. I am not loosing any coolant.
Is this normal or should I check the cooling system?
What to look for if I have to check the cooling system?
PS I have a SP6 DS

My recent run to the ring showed this as well.
Start the day, reading about 85°C. As the day got warmer you could actually see the gauge rise as the outside temperature increased.
I'm not sure if it's just the cooling pack for the Cerb is marginal or that it over cools, relies on the thermostat a lot to start with and then once it's fully opened shows it's true operating temperature.

Mine used to push up to 98 if I didn't leave a large enough gap between me and whomever I was following so I would say that the standard set-up is, as you say, marginal.
All things are wonderful now that I've had Joo's cool-chip fitted
Looking forward to the ultimate test at the final part of The Ring next month
