After finding my cams are mashed I've spoke to a few people (Austec - though they never got back to me, Dan Taylor, Jason at Str8 Six). The general consensus is that is sounds like my cams are too worn for a regrind. Second hand cams either tend to be worn beyond use, or near perfect, so finding an unwanted pair is hard, as I'm finding!

Anyone know of a set please?

Looking at the long run I'd prefer to just get a new set, but still no joy with finding a new job means £600 just on cams is quite a stretch.

That sounds a good price to me.

Two cams and 16 followers came to £1122 + VAT a couple of years ago.

Transformed the engine though.

might be worth contacting bell hill garage to see if they've got damaged engine you can split the cams out of

Do you want early clatter cams or later whisper cams? I have a pair of early clatters if theyre of any use? If I remember correctly they have some marking on them but from what I recall of them I would have no problem using in an engine of my own, they would certainly regrind if you were bothered about them but I would probably use them as is.*

  • subject to change of mind if i find theyre worse than i remembered lol

Early clatter cams are what I have now, and I'm more than happy to keep with the clatters! biggrin How much would you be after for them?

When I spoke to Austec and Str8 Six they said you can only reprofile them if there is enough metal left on the lobes. Otherwise, even after reprofiling there may not be enough of a lobe to give you enough lift.

And personally, at nearly £400 for the pair, I'd rather pay another £200 for brand new cams, with the added plus being that the new ones from TVR Power I believe are billet rather than the old sintered cams.

Anyway, all going well I think a pair will be winging my way from spitfire4v8. biggrin

Just found them out and there's a couple of lobes on the shorter camshaft which have worn through the hardening, sorry. The longer camshaft appears to be in good order though. Is luck on your side?

Which side is the longer one? Please say it is the nearside, as that is the one that is most worn.
