yes it does cover it but not friction plates (they are wear and tear) but you must break down and call AA assistance, so if your car is already in a garage they wont cover it. In addition to that you can get the AA paying, two weeks after you obtained cover. So basically you must get AA cover, wait for two weeks and then call them out.
^ what QQC said. They'll pay £475 (£500 minus £25 excess) towards it. 1x slave and 1x fingers for me so far 
Calling them out isn't such a hardship as you'll need it relayed to the garage anyway. I'm lucky enough to live near APM and Andy is used to dealing with AA claims, I think he has the AA claims dept on speed dial
