Oil recommendations, please.

Want to change the cerbs oil and just wondering what everybody else is using. Mines a 4.5 V8 with nearly 36000 miles on her. Thanks in advance. SVM

Motul 300v 10w - 40 (Opie oils)

I've used Millers Oils CFS 10/60 race oil for quite a while now, but I would've thought any quality brand of the correct grade would do.

As mentioned above, Motul is a good brand.

Opie oils recommended Silkolene pro S 10w 50 for mine (like ribena) and I've stuck with that. The car seems to like it.

I've just spent £48 on five litres of Mobile 1 - 0w 40 as per owners handbook - is 10w 40 prefered instead then?

0w-40 is generally reagrded as too 'thin'. Most go for somethnig a bit 'thicker'.

I just did an oil and filter change on the cerb today using this, its what i have been topping up with since i bought the car. Top stuff!

Morris 10/50 fully synthetic race oil is sensible money, 30ish quid and the oil pressure seems to maintain higher pressure even when pushed hard, i know not an AJP but an engine none the less.

From dyno testing experience (not the AJP mind) I wouldn't use anymore than a 0w40 if you only use your car for Weekend drives etc.

I'd only up to a 50 or 60 if you really use you car hard at times.

The Cerb naturally over cools it's oil and running a 50 60 weight really is too thick. You'll loose power and risk loosing pressure to the cams I would have thought.

I 'd say a 10w40 for summer use, 0w40 for summer and winter and a 10w50/60 for those with oil stats and that do some pretty hard road or circuit work.

You can certainly do a lot worse than good old Mobil 1. Tests with some racing oil from a leading Asian lube supplier showed that even they struggle to blend an oil that would provide comparable lubrication and life and they have a fair bit of experience when it comes to fuels and lubes.

Sorry to drag this up again. I'm on the opie site, about to buy some silkolene pro, was not sure of the correct viscosity...

My choices are..

5w/30
5w/40
10w/50

This is just for top ups... Any thoughts?

Used to run Shell Helix 5w/40 but was advised to swap to Pro S 10w/50 by Opie Oils (this was a summertime reccomendation).

Certainly reduced oil consumtion for me (well, not 'me')

The short answer is that any good oil that meets the Manufacturers specification will be fine.

If this is the case, use what you have in the car already, if you dont know, I'd recommend changing the whole lot.

Mine is a S6 with about 10k miles and I use Mobil 1 0W-40 with no problems, like it as its thin straight from cold.
