Leaking Gearbox Help!!
Discussion
I have recently purchased a 4.2 cerbera which I love the sound off and driving when it is not being repaired, however, I now have a new problem which needs solving. When the car is taken for a spin over 60 mph the car will smoke when the engine is turned off. The car was put on a ramp today and it was noted that there was gearbox oil leaking on one side of the gearbox. The mechanic thought it could be either the splash plate or breather, crack case etc. The front and rear gearbox seals have been replaced and are fine. The leaking oil is burning on the exhaust and causing the smoke but not sure what the leak could be. Any ideas?
i'd go for filler or drain plug on the side. its right by the side of the drivers side exhaust, if these are corss threaded or porrly sealed the oil will spurt over the exhaust.
reverse switch is on the passenger side of the gear box, side of the gear box.
also check the output seal on the back of the gear box where the prop slides into.

Have you checked your clutch fluid level, if it's low or there is hardly any in then it could be your slave cylider that's leaking which is quite a common fault.
its fluid leaking from the tailhousing joint and has nothing to do with the slave cylinder, clutch fluid level is normal, car was on ramps today and visibly weeping from that jointI thought the same (leaking from the joint) but it turned out to be leaking from the filler plug and tracking down to the joint. I have heard to clean it off and degrease and then dust with talcum powder. Not something I have tried but it sounds like it would reveal source of leak if you check regularly enough to see where it starts from.
