air temp affects performance
Discussion
You are not imagining things. Most cars run better with cool air. Too much heat can cause fuel vaporisation, and with our wonderfully insulated engine bays this can be a serious problem. In some cars (not just TVR's) the air intake tubes and fuel lines are wrapped in heat reflective material and in the extreme Max Power specials, refrigerated fogging via NO2 or CO2 systems are used to produce fairly large power gains by cooling the whole intake system.

Most of these Max Power specials are turbo cars though. Cooling the whole intake is system is critical for turbo cars and can produce significant power gains.
The gains for NA cars is a lot less but it still helps.
