fuel temperature
Discussion
i think my engine struggles with vapourisation when very hot starting on a very hot day.
The fuel pipes are all lagged. I slipped a thermometer into the lagging of the reurn pipe form the fuel rail and it was 110 degrees! is this normal?
I also tested the air temp at the top of the fuel tank and it was 95 degrees. Again is this normal.
TIA

One of the reasons people often see extra fuel charged for when I'm mapping cars isn't because i've used it all up, but because i have to introduce fresh cold fuel into the tank to keep it's temperature down to sensible levels. TVR give you a tank mounted inside the boot and then doubly insulated with foam and carpet, the temp is only going to get higher. If you have air con you can use this to cool the fuel on it's return to the tank. If you haven't got air con then you could pass the return fuel through a cooler like an oil cooler mounted in some fast moving air, but essentially it's going to get pretty hot whatever you do.
Would an inline 12v fan circulating fresh (cool) air (via ducting) be of any use?
I had considered doing this but ducted towards the troublesome starter motor.
I haven't personally experienced vapour locking since my Triumph Spitfire days where the twin SUs are mounted directly above the exhaust manifold, a real selling point of this set up was that when a bit of crap gets under the valve going into the float chamber, it overflows pumping fuel over the hot manifold!
And let's not even get onto Waxstat jets!!!!!!!!!!!!
Sorry not to be of more help Jes.

Tim,
Thanks - I have been playing with it this afternoon - it was very hot and I ran around picking up dropping off kids etc. It always restarted although it did it's usual backfire a couple of times when trying to fire up. I was delibrately provoking it by not using the aircon to see if I could make the problem occur and then cure it.
I had one instance where it pinked badly at low revs under load and the idle increased to circa 1500rpm after i restarted it but I reset the adaptives and fault codes and it then restarted clear and ran ok.
I did get a couple of times a note on the laptop fauly screen on bank 2,4,6,8 stating BAD instead of ok but not sure what it meant. when i reset the ecu it vanished though.
still confused but i seem to have cured the lambda problem

this will be interesting as i have defunc'd my a/c for the moment,
however my a/c never worked when i had the car but it seemed to run fine with no bad start problems when warm (only idling issues, partly due to me being a noob and messing with Tpots)
Joo will no a/c and no fuel cooler for return fuel mess up the map?
