Hi All,

You may remember a while back that I posted that my 'new' fuel lines had collapsed and one had split.

well, I've just taken them all off and what I found on one was somewhat surprising.

The hose between the FPR and the Air-con/fuel cooler had collapsed internally, constricting the I/D to approx' a third of normal, not on one, but on both ends.

I had the hoses made up by a 'specialist' hose maker, I made it clear at the time what the hoses were for, this is just a heads up to check those lines and make sure you get the right stuff.

I've taken a couple of photos, but it's damn near impossible to photograph. BTW the mullering of the outer braid happened when I was trying to remove the bugger.

Anyone swapped over fittings to Aeroquip ones? I can't see how you'd do it with the tails that are on the air-con cooler.

Tim

bit worrying... had the same lines put on mine by the garage at the last service.... wasn't too pleased how the had forced them over what appeared to be a threaded fitting and the hose clamped them on.

i was going to investigate proper fittings as well but never find the time.

Racetech Do an exchange where you send your old pipes to them they get your old fittings properly crimed back on to new OE pipes & send them back to you, less then 30 quid all in for all three from the engine bay if I remember correctly. They don't look very cool as black rubber but at least you know where you are with them & it's much better than the cracked 10year old ones that were there. As said I don't think there's much choice over the type of pipe with all the different ends on the hoses. I feel much happier with them fitted now after reading some of the horror fire stories on here.
Incidentally mine had heat shielding on the pipes where they cross the exhaust manifold, this I obviously re-fitted!

Was under my car the car the other day and noticed the fuel line to the pump was cracked and perished beyond belief. It's booked in to have them all replaced. Well worth a check as per warning thread a few months ago. My car is nine years old fwiw.

You need hoses lined internally with Nylon.

Pirtech can supply a hose that they supply to one of the Dealerships that is fuel safe.

Where did you get that hose from?

Just been to Pirtek. rolleyes

They only just managed to find 2m of fuel hose and not a single swage ferrule the right size. frown

So, off to another supplier tomorrow to have the new hoses crimped up.

I won'[t say who the supplier was, but he's unrelated to TVRs and in the SE of England so it's unlikely other people will have the same problem.

Olly - pi55 off. biggrin

I just did all my main flexible fuel lines as mentioned in another post and found a rally guy in Wales (can find info if u ask me) I told him what car and what it was for and the worry over leaks, pressure, and heat problems, he reccomended and supplied me with a I think tefnol line with a s/s flexible outer and some smart colored jublee ends. The line is meant to be good up to 180 degrees and so far looks good and I must say even though I had checked all my lines befor replacment there must have been a small weep as I always had a petrol smell but put it down to over fueling. Now I have done all the lines not a whiff of fuel so highly reccomended you can actually find them on e-bay but worth calling and describing what you are useing them for to ensure the right hose and type of material.

Okay, now I'm a tad p'eed off.

As I'm changing these lines due to the fact that the last ones were incorrect I though I'd double check that the hose that I've just been sold is correct.

So, I picked up the Pirtek Catalogue when I picked up the hose, and the description of the hose they supplied me is, as follows:

Single Rayon Braid Hose

Inner tube
Seamless black NBR rubber, oil resistant.

Application:
Hose range suitable for applications including low pressure hydraulic oil lines, and pheumatic lines. Will handle petroleum base hydraulic fluids, air, water, diesel fuels and lubricating oils. Hose specification conforms to SAE J 517 100RS.

Now it doesn't say fuel specifically so I'm reluctant to use it, are there any 'experts' out there who can offer their opinion - please.

Thanks

Diesel has a lubricant in it.

I still dont think braided fuel lines are a good idea at all.

I know Ben, you've said it before. yes

But I'm heading that route as they are designed for the job. I'm not talking about overbraid I'm talking about the real mccoy. If I can get the fittings, it might even be 811 convoluted PTFE hose but that's looking unlikely frown, Plus it's nice to have a bit of bling with a car as used and abused as mine. biggrin
