Was out having a little drive and as I pulled off I gave it a little burst of power and heard a single, worrying sounding bang! The car lost all gears but the clutch still feels fine. However, whatever gear you put it into does not seem to engage. I think there might be a tiny bit of resistance in gear but its so slight its hard to know. Clutch has not been slipping and is fairly new, probably less than 10k on it IIRC. AA reckon it might be the clutch plates perhaps.

Any ideas?

Cheers

Try and see if your prop shaft is spinning when its in gear and clutch released

cant cos its on the back of an AA lorry right now! If I revved it either when she was in gear (or should have been) or not, engine reves up and everything sounds exactly as it should do, just very little forward motion which is often considered to be a bad thing!

At least its not your engine! Is it going home then or to a garage?

I am home, car is off to Barnet.

And you having a pop about my small engine issue last year then?! It's still a raw subject!

AA have been brilliant, turned up with a flat bed in 40 mins, called when they were ten mins away and treated the car with kid gloves. Very impressed.

Yeah, same thing here. TVR Centre and a lot of help from various PHers meant it was not too traumatic in the end but I have had cheaper weeks than that!

And seems like it is the driveshaft - car could be back tomorrow and will cost me precisly nothing as it is covered under an AA policy. So a bit of a result. No idea if she will be ready tomorrow and don't really mind but would be great if she is.

Um, mine! Replaced becuase the engine a bit slightly kind of blew up and while we replaced the engine and GB seemed to make sense to do the clutch as well. IIRC I had a master cylinder go last year but that was obviously no big deal.

How is the engine going? Did you ever get it on a dyno?

Nope, never did. Seems to be running fine. It had a few oil leaks but nothing major and they have all been repaired by now. She is in need of a service but other than that, sweet as a nut!

You, Phill and the chaps at TVR centre made the whole process farily painless. Thanks for all your help and advice at the time. Did you complete your project car?

AA have agreed to pay for a new drive shaft and the boys at Barnet had contacted them before I had a chance to do so and reckon they might have her back with me as early as tomorrow. AA have been brilliant and TVR centre once again have swung into action in less than no time. Their prices are pretty good but as they seem to complete jobs in very short times the total charge is always very fair indeed. Also on the one occasion they didnt manage to sort the fault first time they worked really hard to resolve the problem. Can't recommend those guys highly enough.
