Do you need to do anything with the rears on a 4.2 if you get these to maintain the brake balance?

No, the brake balance remains fine there is no need for any upgrade on the rear.

I didnt realise the later calipers were different. These look different to both the 4 and 6 bolt calipers? Do you think its right that they will take upto 355mm disk?

I remember speaking to BellHill when doing a 4.2 - 4.5 upgrade, he said I needed the earlier 6 bolt calipers from a 4.5 and that it was a bit of a ballache trying to fit the later style callipers (as these are) onto my 98 car. Might need to start changing uprights etc if I recall as the offset positioning was also different I think (i.e not just a case of spacing out for the bigger disk). All a bit beyond me and can't vouch for it being accurate info I have to say, but just be careful if its going on an earlier car before spending out money - I think for post 2000's it might be ok but I'd do some good research.

Youa re correct here.

The 4.2 upright and 4.5 are different. Also the caliper mounting brakets are different with different offsets etc. The only way to do it is to fing 4.5 uprights or get a new caliper to hub spacer kit made(not cheap).

It was around that point I got all confused and bored of the technical talk, so just chucked the car at Andy and said "Give it back to me with 4.5 size brake discs, please" - I know I got Jonny's old callipers and whatever else Andy did I do not know, just wrote the cheque out biggrin

Yep the 6600 have different spacing on the mounting bolts to the larger earlier 5200 6 bolt calipers. So different upright mounts would be needed too. iirc the earlier cars are 152mm spacing and the later around 160mm. Just go careful before buying for an earlier car. Plenty on AP CP5200 calipers do come up which are right on the bay, plus rather tasty 6 pot CP5555 calipers which also fit the earlier uprights.

Those 6 pots will not go straight on as the bolt holes are further apart, i'm sure of it, i had some and decided not to bother. My 6 bolt 4 pots with the big discs are outrageously good, its one thing people always comment on.

Your right, only 4 pots are needed I have 330mm and the 6 bolt 4 pots and can pretty much out brake most things with no fade on track.
