Hello All,

Have just purcahsed a new battery from Halfords - my old one is also from Halfords

It's a calcium 072 and is exactly the same width and length as my old battery.

However, for some reason it's an inch higher and won't fit in the space.

Obviously I need one pretty sharpish, so what's the general concensus on the one to go for?

Cheers

For the prices, get an Optima red top.

Just bought myself an Optima yellow top (765 cca 55ah). 2 year warranty - £150. Does the business so far!

Anyone know why it is exactly that; cerbs are SO prone to draining batteries. I'd really rather avoid running this one down, may be worth disconnecting if sitting for a week+?

I know it's unlikely that a battery of this spec will go flat very quickly but prevention is better than cure isn't it!?

My last 072 battery was dying even with an Optimate plugged into it all the time.

I think it has something to do with wet cell batteries not liking being discharged a lot (buggers the pates etc) and so the Optima batteries should resist this better.

Mine has been stood in the garage for 3-4 weeks between use and the Red Top I have still fires it up perfectly. Not has to charge it once yet.

Changed my battery to an Optima Red Top RT S 4.2 (tight fit but OK when I cut the handle off) and not had a problem since. Car tends not to be left un-driven for more than 10 days but I never need to charge it now.

Mine will last about two weeks but a lot depends on alarm system and mine has a traker as well that takes a constant drain?

Halfords changed the positioning of the terminals on the batteries so they sit on top and not recessed so yep, fraid it won't fit.

I've just fitted a bigger Halfords one in with 680 cranking amps, you have to extend the negative cable (earth leads available at Halfords) but it fits fine, When I get home I'll let you know the model number.

What is the fascination with Halfords. The place sells cr*p with staff that don't know their ass from their elbow IME.
Are you guys still using Halfords after you got used to going there to but the nice shiny trinkets to "bling up da mota" in your youth???? biggrin

Hello all,

Just in case anyone is interested.

The Halfords 072 battery used to fit, but now they have changed the shape and it's an inch too tall to fit in the space.

However, unipart do exactly the same battery, I mean exactly the same for £76 + VAT.

Fitted it today and it works a treat.

Will let you know how it goes.

Cheers

I fitted an Oddessy 1230 to my cerb, 1300 cold cranking amps, it's a dry cell used by the US Military, slips straight in, plenty of room, but, costs more than a Red Top though about £176 -but- they usually last about 10 years not 3-5 like wet cells.
